Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels.
“Our Golden Monkey is beloved by many, so we anticipate some heartfelt responses to our intriguing transformation of this beer,” expressed Victory brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “The wine barrel aging has had a substantial and delicious impact on the Golden Monkey.”
Approximately 100 oak barrels that once held chardonnay varietal white wine from Wente Vineyards of Livermore, CA were filled with Golden Monkey and aged at ambient temperatures in the Downingtown brewery for 3 months. This process is an extension of an experiment dating back 6 years prior, when a single oak barrel once holding white wine from local vintner, Chaddsford Winery, was used in a similar manner to produce a test batch which never left the brewery. Deemed delicious by Victory brewmasters and brewing staff, the White Monkey project was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Wente Vineyards.

(Bottle) Pale amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with oak wood, white wine, dried fruit, raisins, butterscotch, white bread and hints of nuts. Malty, fruity, vinous taste with dried fruit, white wine, wood, hints of glue, toffee, white bread, honey, coriander and a mild spicy bitterness in a vinous and warming finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Rich and tasty, with lots of wine and wood. Very nice.

500 ml bottle. Tawny gold color. Foamy white head. Fruity malt nose has vinous notes. Sharp yeasty malt flavor upfront. Notes of coriander, white wine, pale citrus, lime and oak. Complex and flavorful with a subtle vanilla finish.

Flaska från SB, ca 2 år gammal. Disig gyllengul vätska med högt skum. Relativt mycket kolsyra. Väldigt mycket smörig och ekad chardonnay i doften. Fatkaraktären dominerar smaken men grundölet klara det riktigt bra och kombinationen är riktigt fin. Trippelns lätta sötma funkar väldigt bra med fatkaraktären. Druvor, söta äpplen, fat, halvtorrt mousserande vin. Riktigt snygg.
