Since 2005, Uerige has also been brewing a special strong beer for the American market. Our DoppelSticke has a remarkable 8.5% abv and yet tastes unmistakable: it truly is the yummy droplet!
After the initial herbal aroma of hops, which tends to surprise the palate, there follows a firework of flavor sensations ranging from caramelized sugar, malts, and herbs to rich touches of dark chocolate and rum, only to eventually fade gently and lustrously.
True aficionados tend to simply ignore our recommended minimum shelf life of eight weeks – rather, they swear by storing their DoppelSticke in the cellars for an entire year first.

330ml bottle from Trembling Madness. Nutty brown with a moderate white head. Malty, slightly sour aroma. Flavour is packed full of malt, a little treacle and quite bitter on the finish. Lovely stuff

A dark brown beer, a head is quite big and blond. Aroma has fruitness of banana, caramel, some breadyness. Taste has banana, breadyness, strong bitterness that's nicely drying the taste. Medium+ bodied, nice and smooth. Good.

Swing top bottle @ URBM, Oirschot. Best beer of this great session. Very malty aroma and flavor with raisin, oak, laurel, armagnac. Alcoholic, but with loads of herbal hops. Great balance, astonishing beer!

330ml bottle from RusBeerShop in Moscow. Pours dark brown with a tall beige head. Aroma is prunes, nuts, treacle. Taste is malt, prunes, raisins, vinous, warming alcohol. Light bitter finish. A champion. My favourite barley wine that isn’t a barley wine.

Bottle thanks to hauxe. Pours very dark brown with a creamy beige head. Malty aroma, stone fruit, caramel. Taste is malty, some stone fruit, a bit vinous, caramel, sweet. Really not an altbier at all. But pretty damn good, nevertheless.
