A tribute to Loch Fyne's famous fictional ship, Vital Spark fuses two worlds; a traditional rich, dark malt base charged with new world Amarillo and Cascade hops. Rich, dark caramel malt flavours lifted by notes of hedgerow fruits and a short, refreshing finish.

Bottle at Corner House. Malty nose, cocoa, nuts, caramel. Dark brown with a huge white head. Malty, caramel, hoppy. Surprised by the hops, citrus, herbal, piny. Nice bottle carbonation. A mild verging on a black ipa.

On cask at Fyne Ales, pours a clear amber mahogany with a tiny beige head. Aroma brings out dry bready malt and toasted caramel. Flavour is malty but it's all obscured and lacks any real coherence. Just a pointless dark ale without depth or character. Pretty damn lame.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a dark ruby with minimal white head. There’s an aroma that consists mainly of liquorice with some malty hints. In the mouth it is sweet and fruity with plenty of liquorice plus nuts, malts and traces of dried fruits, Finish is quite bitter. Reasonable if not outstanding.

Dark auburn with a creamy, beige head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, berries. Taste is toasted bitter with a faint, lingering caramel sweetness. Body is fairly light, but just chewy enough for a dark beer, no wateriness. Easygoing. Not bad.
