Created in the mid-nineties, Riggwelter is our flagship Strong ale. We wanted a beer with real strength and depth so we developed a unique recipe built around rich espresso aromas, dark fruit and roasted malt flavours which lends itself perfectly to putting in a bottle.

It is a regular black beer, close to a porter, some roasted malt, bitter side, easy to drink, not bad, 22.08.16

(Cask at GBBF London Earl’s Court, 4 Aug 2010) Dark reddish brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins, prunes, figs and sweet liquorice. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, raisins, prunes, dark bread, over-ripe pineapple and a good, spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a solid malt sweetness. Well balanced and tasty, mooreish. Very nice. (8/7/7/8/7=7.3) Rerate: (Cask at Akkurat, 30 Apr 2026) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of coffee, chocolate and blueberries. Malty taste with coffee, liquorice, blueberries, cacao and a balanced earthy bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Rich and harmonious. Very nice.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, small head. Aroma of apples and spicy hay. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Toast, hay and apples. Mid bitter finish.

Bottle from Morrisons. Clear amber/ruby body with a tight off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of toffee, rust and dried fruit. Flavour of Dr Pepper and salted caramel. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. It’s quite boozy but there’s lots of flavour.
