Petrus Aged Pale is a 100% foeder beer, aged for 24 months in our oak foeders. It has been the reference for sour beers for years. Moreover, ever since the establishment of the brewery, this beer has been used to blend with other beers to give them fresh, slightly sour flavours and aromas.

Bottle at home, can't recall from where, 01/04/24. Clear golden with a decent just off white covering that dissipates over time to a swirl. Nose is barnyard, orchard notes, funk, pissy wood, lemon rind, herb, hedgerow. Taste comprises pissy green berries, wood must, herb, faint minerality, barnyard tones, subtle acidity, dry rot. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a tarte climax. Decent enough sour if perhaps lacking some depth for 7+%.

Backlog January 2016. Almost clear golden body under a fading white head. Aroma has oak and acidic grapefruit with cellar notes. Nice taste of malt, oak, grapefruit and pleasant balanced acidity. Fine body with long lasting aftertaste. Nice and elegant.

33cl bottle at home (27 VI 2021), as Petrus Aged Pale. Beautiful coloured golden clear brew - pure gold with shades of yellow and orange - with frothy snow-white head on top, quite long lasting. Neat looking, and already spreading various funky and floral aromas. The nose has lots of sour and unripe white grapes, stable and hay, pale wood, some stone fruits as apricot and white nectarines, perhaps some mandarines and oranges lingering in the back. Lots of old ale features, maybe even a peated spirit-hint in there as well. The mouthfeel has lots of vividness: medium to sharp carbonation, fruity body, acid sourness with funky backbone, huge satin finish with wood hints. Lemon, napoleon candy, rhubarb on the tongue. A genuine foeder feeling, having that old-fashioned Flemish spark (think of, of course, the Rodenbach branch). The finish has different full-bodied tastes, quite vinegar yet not unenjoyable, with European gooseberry and unripe strawberries. I never thought De Brabandere had such a trump card in its assortment.

5oz pour at Max's Brussels Fest 2021, pours gold with a little lacey, wispy white head. Nose of candy, some funk, rotting lemons, oak. This is a mother beer, huh? Flavor is lemony, tart, candy too, persimmon. Full bodied, tart finish. Better than I anticipated.

Bottle from BIAB. Slight haze in amber beer, small head. Crisp tart sour nose with hints of cotton candy and a wee bit of rubber. Flavor follows through, high carb, bubbly acidity and hop bitterness. Not for the faint of heart or standard beer taste lovers. It's a wild yeast pop in the kisser.
