Tap at 1st Anniversary Kaapse Brouwers Festival. Peat and dark chocolate in the aroma. Very low on carbon, full bodied. Ash, peat, malt, chocolate and soft vinous and raisinny notes in the flavor. Not oozing complexity, but I simply love this beer.

Draught @ Kaapse bierfestival. Opaque pitch black color, full sized brown head. Aroma is malts and quite heavy peat. Taste malts, balanced peat, dark malts, lightly roast, wood, liquor, a hint of leather. Medium body and carbonation. Nice one!

Black colour, off-white head. Smoky aroma, whisky, liquorice (drop). Bitter flavour, light whisky, ash. Finish smoky whisky, ash, drop. Nice, a bit too ashy in the flavour for me, but otherwise really nice.

Draft @ Kaapse festival. Black pour. Aroma is mostly peat and roasted malt. Taste is very peaty, with coffee, roasted malt, smoke and some moccha. I quite liked it, but you have to like peat to enjoy this one.

Sampled draft @ βKaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festivalβ. Black with a dash of dark brown, mocha head. Nose is good blend of heavy peat countered with chocolate, syrup & sugar sweetness. Taste is rather simple but good mix. Peat with enough sweet chocolate, coffee, sugar to counter it, light soy sauce, liquorish notes. Milk chocolate body & not overly heavy for the style, even a tad light. Simple but successful. Def. more successful effort than the French version, clearly above the average level of Kaapse.

Tap @ Kaapse Fest, small sample. Dark color, short frothy head. Aroma of peat, roast, some oatmeal cookie. Bit sweet in taste, but mostly malty bitterness. Quite some ash and peat, although not as much as the de Molen Octomore versions. Still a bit out of balance again and not my favorite kind of beer.

Tap at Kaapse festival. Black with huge beige head, leaves lots of lacing. Peat up front, sour red berries, roasted malts, some dark chocolate, espresso, light hay and barnyard, herbal towards the finish. Quite sweet with a hint of sourness and roasted bitterness. Medium bodied with full but soft carbonation.
