Pours mahogany into a tulip. White head with little retention recedes to nothing. Dark pit fruit, funk and oak aromas. Medium bodied with pit fruit and grapes upfront turning to marshmallow brett and band-aid in the lasting finish.

Thnx Rob ! Pours unclear amber , no real head ( looks like wort) Smell is sour, oaky, fruity. Taste is dry sour, lactic acid. Mild fruity. Nice, but not really as complex as expected. Still very nice though

Draft @ BCTC, Ommegang Brewery. August, 8, 2015. Dirty red, muddy brown color. Aroma is a vinegar bomb! Maybe I can get around this aroma and try to be subjective here…

Flavor is acetone, funky red grapes, funky oak with a sharp vinegar that turns into cherries and other random berries. Steady tartness. For a style I completely hate this turned out more drinkable then I was guessing but I sure the hell wouldn’t stand in line for it.

First beer of EBF 2014! I’m not going to even go in to an exensive, structured rating. This was just fucking awsome. Perfect malt balance, sourness was all malo-lactic with a good brett kick and very light on the grapes. Red wine barrel brightens things and add some complexity but leave the yeast and bacteria to do its thing.
More than anything, I just want to highlight how ridiculous these fests can get. There was literally never a wait to get a beer from Captain Lawrence, at any point in the fest, whereas most of the "Popular Brewers" had 10-15 minute waits. Not trying to be Captain Cynical here, but for god’s sake, make up your own mind on beers and try the "little guys". Strange, though, that Capt. Lawrence is just a little guy. They’ve put out so many world class beers, yet they get very little notoriety these days. Quietly brewing some of the best sours around. This beer was pretty close to perfect. Mouthfeel, balance, complexity, attenuation. Amazing.
