This 7.4% stout is called Stronge Extra Stout in the UK and was originally brewed as a celebration one-off brew to celebrate the arrival of Buxton’s new brewer Colin Stronge, we liked it so much it's now a permanent addition.
Fun fact: It is not allowed to use the word Stronge in the United States because it implies that the beer is high in alcohol as opposed to the brewer’s last name.

33cl bottle from Drink shop, Tallinn. Pours dark, dark, almost black, with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with dark chocolate, dark fruits and hints of spices. Medium sweet, with intense roasty and well balanced flavours and a slightly dry and bitter finish. Delicious stuff!

From tap at the Local Pub, Athens. Black color with frothy small beige brown head. Roasted malty aroma with chocolate and coffee, light smoked. Sweet and bitter taste like the aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Draft. Opaque, nearly black color, creamy brown head. Aroma of earthy cocoa. Taste has earthy cocoa powder, coffee grounds, dry finish. very tasty.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. This is a deep brown looking one with a small sidesticking and islandy brown head. Cocoa dark nose here. Some oboy or nesquick powder with hints of both vanilla and chocolate. Not a super extreme hit-you-in-the-face nose but it's most definitely present and nice. Some grains also. It has a way to alcohol-raw taste for my taste buds, and it still feels a bit thin in the mouth. Dry roasted malts, some more dry cocoa powder. No trace of the faint oboy sweetness in the aroma. Ends really mouthdrying this. Decent stuff. 02.05.2014

Appearance is sludge black, with a small tan head which fades quickly. Aroma- lots of chocolate. Fudge cake, leathery notes, vanilla, lots of dark malts, coffee hints, bit of liquorice, it’s mostly about the chocolate though. Smells lovely. Taste- lots of bitter chocolate, coffee, very slick and oily mouthfeel, surprisingly thin in the body, roast malts, sticky and dark chocolate finish. Very nice, rich stout.

Bottle at home. Pours gloopy jet black with a thick tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, leather, charcoal, wood. Taste is rich, light sweet, good roasted, tarry bitter. Long bitter finish. Oily texture. Good stuff.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Bierfestival Mechelen 2014. Oily black, little mocha bubbles. Nose is thick liquorish, not very outspoken, syrupy fudge, chocolate. Taste is not very outspoken either, roast, liquorish, syrup, chocolate, coffee, light herbal, touch varnish. Thick syrupy body. Okay but not very outspoken, decent. I mean that, it is decent on its own but pales in comparison to the rest within the style.

Tap @ In de Wildeman, medium sample, served in a tulip glass. Dark brown color, short fluorescent brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, mocha, licorice, roasted malts. Like a big RIS, but this one is only 7.4%. Taste is medium sweet, slight bitterness, bit dry. Licorice goes up in time, whereas the mocha fades away a bit unfortunately. But a lovely big stout this is.

Taster size glass from tap @ In De Wildeman. Pitch black color. Dense beige head, good retention and some lacing. Aroma’s: chocolate, roasted malts, mocha, a bit vanilla & fruit. Retronasal the roast is much more pronounced and the chocolate all but disappears. Flavor is heavily roasted, light bitter, light sourish (from the roast), light sweet. Medium bodied. Finish is hard roasted malts, long lasting, burnt wood, charcoal, ash, moderate bitterness. Nice, but perhaps a bit too much roast/burn.
