Almost complete black color with a fine dense beige head. Good lacing. Coffee, a bit roasty and mild chocolate aroma. Really inviting. Medium (+) body. Fine balance between sweetness and bitterness. Soft carbonation and a bit creamy texture. Coffee, herbal, chocolate and some roasty notes in the flavor. Nice pleasant porter.

Bottle from Westside Renaissance Market in Ukiah, CA. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate with anise hints. Med body. Flavor is slightly earthy chocolate with anise. There must be hop, cause it’s mildly bitter. but I’m not getting any ideas about it. Somehow this is not interesting or exciting. Well, at least there’s chocolate.

Bottle purchased @ Julio’s Liquors for $6.59 and worth every penny. Pours dark brown to black in a snifter with fast dissipating tan head. The taste is roasted with coffee, milk chocolate, caramel, and a light hop to give it a just a touch of bitterness. Medium body leaning on the fuller side. It was a nice desert beer and was perfect after dinner. Maybe this beer has changed over time because I don’t understand so many poor ratings. It truly tasted above average and I would drink it again.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted almost burnt chocolate malt. Flavor is weaker than the aroma. Some roasted malt but finishes kinda watery. Started out good but went downhill to average real fast.

Bottle. Thanks omhper! Black-colored with a medium, slowly-diminishing, brown head. Aroma of coffee, light licorice notes and a hint of fruitiness. Sweet roasty flavor with chocolate, a bit of cocoa and coffee. Finishes on a bitter roasty note with a light herbal hint. Medium to full body with a nice chocolatey, slightly viscous, mouthfeel. Very tasty.

Draft at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007. A brown beer with a red shine under a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of butter, prunes, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of prunes, over ripe fruits, and wood as well as light notes of butter, leading to a dry woody finish. I think it is off - from the buttery note - but it was served by the brewery at the festival, so they must think it was in OK condition to serve!

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 28 Sep 2007) Black colour with brownish notes, firm pale brown head. Roasted nose with notes of coffee, cocoa, liquorice and citrus. Malty, roasted, slightly citric taste with notes of coffee, citrus and liquorice. Some ashes and sweetness comes through in the finish. More complex aroma than taste. Nice porter with a lot of interesting elements.
