A very good choice for those who are not keen on a typical beer taste. Very easy to drink and very refreshing. Yuzu is a Japanese lemon. During brewering, only the peel is used to steep inside the Lambic.

Tasted at Lambikstoempers’ Bierweekend in Alsemberg but in its unblended form, as a one year old lambic; since this unblended version is not intended for commercialisation, I take the liberty to add my rating under this entry, which is the same thing but blended and refermented in the bottle. No head at all, hazy yellow blonde colour with greenish hue. Aroma strongly reminiscent of a citrus-flavoured tonic water, Schweppes Agrum immediately springs to mind, fresh orange (or in this case, yuzu) peel, wheat, lemon juice, sweaty and funky lambic characteristics. Refreshing, very citrussy onset, again the image of Schweppes Agrum which appears, lemon peel acidity, wheaty basis with a bready barley note, wry grape peel increasing in the finish and ending bitter, just like, again, Schweppes Agrum, but with an earthy, woody lambic character adding complexity, as well as a weird, raw mushroom-like umami flavour. Starts sour with sweetish citrus notes and becomes increasingly umami and bitter in the end - very weird lambic in all respects, but definitely interesting. Makes me curious to find out what other inventions this Japanese beer entrepreneur in Belgium will come up with...

(750ml 2013 bottle, lovely share from a good friend!) Pours very hazy orange with a tiny ring of white bubbles. Lots of lemony yuzu peel and a bit of flesh, super intense on the nose. Also lightly sour/lactic smelling, quite herbal, a little woody, with a dusty sort of funk. The palate is really loaded with yuzu character up front - lemon/grapefruit/orange pungency and a little pine/menthol. Some acidity like yuzu juice too, softly lactic as well, very softly sweet underneath. Citrus peel and dried herb bitterness builds in the middle, touch woody, but very little sourness. Finish is dry and lightly bitter, lingering yuzu, herbal, softly funky. Moderate body and soft carbonation. Wow. I love the smell and taste of yuzu so this was right up my alley, very very unique lambic with so much citrus and a reasonable helping of bitterness. Definitely not the most sour lambic, but really drinkable and even quenching. Could be more funky, then it would be world beating.

Bouteille 37.5cl, BB 20/09/2015.
