Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with hoppy notes, subtle Bourbon influence. Picking up chocolate, some fruity notes and alcohol. Flavour is moderate sweet and medium bitter. Body is above medium. Didn't expect the Bourbon to be so subtle after 2 years of aging.

Poured from a 330 ml bottle with a 28/05/2021 bottle date. Aroma is malt forward with lots of notes of dark caramel, toffee, molasses and crackers with some lighter toasted bread, chocolate and roast notes. Light herbal hop notes. Light bourbon and alcohol notes and faint oak. Pours black with dark brown hues on the edges and a small, moderately thick, dark tan head that recedes quickly to the edges where a small film lingers. Light lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is somewhat to fairly sweet with lots of dark caramel and toffee. Lighter notes of toasted bread and crackers, chocolate, molasses and roast. Medium high bitterness and medium low alcohol notes. Light herbal, woody hop notes that linger in the finish. Light bourbon and faint oak. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a better beer than I was expecting. A big, dark, hoppy thing was a scary combo but the hops and bitterness are actually well balanced and work well with the malt notes. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Really nice, complex malt notes accentuated by the barrel and bourbon notes.

11.2 oz. bottle, pours a dark mahogany-tinged deep dark brown / near-black with a small tan head. Aroma indeed smells like some hybrid of a stout and a black IPA, with notes of toasted malt, plenty of earthy hops, and gentle bourbon barrel presence. Flavour is much the same, with lots of roasted malt, woody hops galore, and moderate bourbon presence. Somehow, this works. Aged IPAs are a strange idea, but this somehow combines the best of a stout and IPA, adds some barrel presence, and still manages to be cohesive. Tasty shit indeed.

33 cl bottle @ Pirkkala. Batch #20210015: bottled 06.04.2021, BBE 06.04.2026 Aroma has grapefruity hops and mild licorice. Flavour has grapefruity hops, mild licorice, nettles. Finishes with licorice. Old-ish bottle but still has the hops left, impressive. More of a black IPA than IS. No traceable signs of bourbon here.

29 April 2023. Vintage 2018, bottled: 6/4/2021.
Hazy black, stable, small, frothy, beige head. Aroma of fondant, espresso, black pepper, toffee, almond, prune, brambleberry, burnt oak, sweet whisky, pink grapefruit, tobacco. Taste has sweet brambleberry, prune & raisin and soft sourish blackberry in a thick malt profile of toffee, dark chocolate & toasted nuts; softly bitter coffee leads the way to an earthy hoppy finish, deeply bittering thanks to notes of grapefruit peel, black pepper and a charred aspect (oak), slight whiff of vanilla and warming alcohol, actually more sweet whisky than bourbon perhaps. Full body, oily-sticky texture, soft carbonation. Intense & complex in structure, delightful.
