On tap at Gulden Draak Bierhuis, pours a deep dark brown with a huge beige head. Aroma has light Belgian yeast, earthiness, and toasted chestnuts. Flavour is rather unsophisticated, with toasted chestnuts, bready malt, and some Belgian yeast. Not a very complex Belgian ale—finishes somewhat cardboardy. Not bad but far from an elite Belgian ale.

Old rating from 30-07-16. A 330ml bottle picked up in Belgium last summer. Pours a hazy brown colour with a beige head. Aromas of caramel, malt and roasted barley with some fruit. Dry taste initially with a nice fruitiness building up. Caramel, Toffee, citrus, raisins, plums and bread, some butterscotch and butter. Finishes dry with a nuttiness & light spicy bitter end

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is brown malt, caramel, candy sugar, raisins. Flavour is sugary sweet with and light bitter. Body is just about medium, slightly thinnish for the style, with lively carbonation. Bit too much like sugary caramel water to be enjoyable.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, chestnut colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Toasty, minimally nutty, dark malty and yeasty spicy aroma, hints of Brazil nut, chestnut, a minimally waxy touch. Taste is dry, toasty, dark malty, slightly nutty, very subtle residual sweetness, a yeasty fruity touch, a yeasty spicy touch as well, weak hints of red berries, nougat, some leafy hop; a minimally waxy touch in the finish. Watery texture, smooth and slightly dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Not overly complex, a tad monotonous - OK.
Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a very dark mahogany colour with a thinnish creamy off-white head. Aromas of stewed fruits, a little caramel and a slight vinous note. Taste is more stewed fruit and caramel, some dry dark fruits, brown bread and again a very light tart vinous note on the finish. Thinnish body and lightly fizzy palate. Ok but not one of my favourite Dubbels.
