Kaapse Brouwers is a new brewery carried by Whisk-e and this is their American Bitter which rings in at 4.9% and made with sladek, amarillo, columbus hops plus dry hopped with citra & mosaic. Stylistically I would peg it as similar to many of the recent Session IPAs though it is listed as an APA. It was a slow gusher and poured a deep copper gold with a huge head that stuck around for awhile leaving behind bubble bath looking lacing. A truly fantastically hoppy aroma that is complex with tangerine (mikan), pine, grapefruit, pine needles, lime yet still gives you a hint of biscuit or crackery malts. Medium to light bodied with that tongue scrapping carbonation you associate with IPAs or well-hopped APAs but the somewhat unsatisfyingly thin palate I find in Session IPAs. The taste is bitter but decently balanced the malts don’t give you much more than a certain neutral stiffness while the hops play between fruity and herbal pine. Pretty nice for roughly 500 yen and it has me stoked for trying the Imperial Gozer Stout!

Tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Slight hazy Amber with full white head. Big aromatic hops with lots of citrus and pine and a touch of pineapple. Dry roasted malty backbone. Dry feel with lively carbonation. Decent ipa!

Clear warm golden colour, white head. Hoppy aroma, American hops, citrus, passion fruit, tropical fruits. Light bitter flavour, malts, light straw and twigs. Bit thin. Fresh hoppy finish. Nice!

BAF 14 . Pours unclear , light amber . Good white head. Smell is fruity , mango, citrus , pine and orange . Taste is bitter , grainy . Bit fruits . Not nearly as intense as the scent makes you think it will be . Nice nevertheless .

Sampled draft @ BAF 2014. Thank you! Hazy orange, white head. Hazy sugar, caramel, sweetish hay nose. Orange, sweetish, caramel, light peach taste, yeast, dust. Creamy body. Okay.

Sample from 33 cl. bottle. Hazy, amber-golden colour with a large, off-white head. Fruity aroma with citrus, peach, caramel malts and slight toast. Taste is bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter with grasses and fruits. Nice APA.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass golden-yellow, huge head. Mild fruity aroma. Starts bitter and dry, fruity like grapefruit. Finish less fruity, dry-malty, bitter-sourish. Not my favourite.

Label claims 4.9% ABV, as well as 46IBU Huge & dense broken white to cream head, irregular, over (cold)hazed amber beer. Fruity, sweetish nose with pineapple, passion fruit, rainwater. Thick head hampers the perception. Bitter, if nowhere exaggerated. Less fruity than the nose, dry, tad resiny, virtually nothing else. Very demure - too shy. Again a rather watery MF, the aftertaste becoming hopoils somehow dissolved in water. A tad too restrained, definitely. APA would be more bold in its country of origin.
