12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Dated 05/11/11. Pours a dark brown/black with a small amount of dark tan head that dissipates quickly. But leaves good lacing. Nose is intensely sweet chocolate with a small amount of bitter coffee. Taste is medium bitter and lightly sour. Has a very strong coffee aftertaste with no chocolate taste whatsoever. Light bodied with a thin texture, fizzy carbonation and a long coffee flavored finish. I gave one extra point to palate just because I’m sure it was better when it was fresh. Overall, its not a bad beer. I gave it two extra points here again because of the freshness. I love the fact that it smells so sweet and tastes bitter. Definitely one to try!

Deep hazy dark brown body with 95% opacity and a thick dense light brown head - very nice. Aroma of pungent, potent coffee and dark chocolate with a bit of a peat and nutty smell, but the malt really comes through near the end. Medium-bodied; Rich deep coffee and chocolate notes come through with a rustic earthy note and the nuts and caramel shine through as well - complex for the style and showing pretty well. Aftertaste nice, but the chocolate fades and left in its place is little peat, a ton of malt and a dry vanilla note. Overall, a nice beer - good for the style and interesting to try. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from the Beer Baron in Livonia, Michigan on 30-April-2011 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 19-May-2011.

Pour is a black with a thin tan head. Aroma is a little chocolate, a little coffee and some roasted malt. Flavor is pretty much the same. Coffee at first with some chocolate malt and a nice smoky goodness. Leaves a nice espresso on the tounge. Good beer and one in an evening is plenty.

12oz bottle. Deep opaque brown-black, thick beige head. Smooth chocolate syrup/milkshake aroma. A pretty respectable Porter, quite heavy on the specialty malts. Easy drinking for a beer of it’s depth, the warming sweetness let’s you know this isn’t a session Porter though. Smooth caramel, coffee, chocolate tones. Roasty. Well done.

bottle from Total Wine at home 11Feb11 pours dark brown with a thin tan head that has spotty lacing down the glass. Aroma is mild roast, almonds and thin coffee. Flavor is bread malts, light roast and coffee kiln with a touch of bitter roast and coffee in the finish. Carbonation is moderate to heavy and keeps the beer feeling light for a porter. I love coffee beers but this one is different in that it’s not an overload of coffee but rather a nice roasted bean or coffee malt flavor that adds a layer of character. That coupled with the $6.50 a sixer price tag makes this a nice pick up for a session porter.

Black Hills Beer Fest - Dark brown pour with a modest tan head. Coffee aroma is fantastic! Rich, roasty, and smooth. Tastes of heavy roast, bittersweet cocoa, and coffee (duh). Nicely done.

12oz Botte Pours out dark brown almost black topped with a long lasting tan head. Aroma is all fresh roasted coffee and a little sweetness. Taste is more of the coffee, roast malts, light chocolate, and a nice light bitter end.

Bottle from Bottleworks. Pours pretty dark brown/black with a foamy/frothy 3 finger darkish tan head. Aroma of coffee understudied by chocolate. Med body. Flavor is coffee, with some medium dark chocolate. It’s fairly bitter, though from burnt malt or hop I do not now. Pretty good stuff.

12 oz bottle into English pint. My bottle reads 6.2% ABV. Pours a dark, dark brown that lets a little bit of light through when held up to the light. Has a fast disappearing tan head that leaves some sticky lace. Smells of freshly roasted black coffee (no surprise). Taste is bittersweet and a little sour. Carbonation is medium, body is medium-full. Nice beer here, have no fear for the coffee and beer are here.
