June 2010: After hiking all day in Bryce Canyon I picked up this beer and some others at ’Rubys Inn’ general store and returned to my motel, just down the road. The beer was poured into my plastic toothbrush tumbler and the tasting began. Dark body with a good tan coloured head, low retension of head, with some lacing, but not much. The smells were of burnt/roasted malts, chocolate and lastly some coffee esters. The taste mirrored the smells nicely and considering the ABV it had a full body which carried the flavours well.

Bottle thanks to Dallas!. Pours black with brown head. Nose of burnt black malt, oatmeal and burnt chocolate malt. Taste is mostly burnt black malt and burnt black coffee. Medium body.

12 oz bottle got in a trade with Sledutah. I used a snifter. Pitch black with very small white head. Light lacing. Nose of fresh oats and chocolate. Taste is oats, chocolate and light burnt coffee. Light carbonation and body is a bit thin, almost watery. However there is a bit of hop bitterness to help balance the sweet flavors. Overall a decent stout of only being 4% ABV.

Bottle thanks to Thad: Poured a deep black color with a finger worth of beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, and slight hops. Taste is roasted malts with some smoothing dark bakers chocolate, and oat. Very lively for a 4% beer.

Draught at The Beerhive, Salt Lake City, UT. Black, minimal head. Tarrylicorice aroma. Mid dry with clean mouthfeel and medium body. Some tar and ash as well as dark chocolate. Ligyht salty finish with notes of chlorine. A bit edgy.

12oz bottle from the local grocery store. Can’t believe I haven’t rated this, I’ve drank my fair share of it
Appearance: Damn near black with a nice tan head with some lacing left in the glass
Aroma: Roasted malts, dark fruits and dark chocolate
Taste: Roasted malts, fruits and chocolate with some hop bitterness in the finish
This is a nice stout, clean and crisp flavors. I think it is a little better on tap, what beer isn’t!

Bottle Picked at the Utah beer tasting. After helping Eric clean up this was one of my rewards. Pours out a dark brown topped with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet milk chcolate and a little roast. Taste more of the sweetness along with a little coffee and a touch of bitterness at the end. Not bad for 4%. I don’t know how they get this much flavor in this low of ABV.

Draft. Deep brown body with tan/brown head. The aroma is roasty with notes of coffee and chocolate. Some hint of sweet milk. The flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finished lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Flavorful oatmeal stout that’s easy to drink. Nicely crafted for a relatively low-alcohol beer.

Tap @ Eddie McStiffs, Moab. Dark color, thick brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt. Malty taste, bit chocolaty, slight coffee. Good stuff.

Poured on tap @ Squatter’s Brewpub in SLC. It has a clear garnet body with infra red edges and lasting light brown head. The aroma is roasty malts and nuttiness with burnt malts in the background. The taste is initially both sweet and roasty. As the experience progresses it then slowly becomes more and more roasty with a hint of burnt malts, some nuttiness and hints of chocolate.
