In the early days this was the last beer to be brewed before the warm summer season. It had an increased alcohol percentage so it would last longer. Regularly looking pint, white head. Thin aroma and taste, some more malts and sweetness than a pilsner. Fresh mouthfeel, light bodied, medium carbonation

Helder geel bier met schuim. Snaak is licht bitter en licht zoet met sporen van fruit, koriander en vanille. Valt wat tegen t.o.v. de ander Hertog Jan bieren.

Bottled. Orangeish amber colour with a small white head. Aroma is mild spices, some sweet malts, mild metallic notes as well as some slight alcohol and mild strange sweetish notes. Flavour is rather similar with a mild herbal and floral touch to it. Yet it somehow tastes a bit unclean for what it is.

Clear pale amber colour, slightly off-white frothy head, disappears slowly, good lacing. Sweet malty spicy aroma, caramel, bread, cloves, dough. Taste medium sweet and slightly bitter, toasted, cough drop. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter finish. A tad too sweet for the style.

Clear golden with off-white head. Very malty, some apple and tropical fruits, light spices and grassy bitterness in the finish. Not too sweet, medium bodied with nice carbonation. .

Why are these beers always so sweet? The maltiness doesn’t help either. Bah.

Appearance: Clear golden color with a finger thick frothy white head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: A bit sweet caramel malty and fruity.
Palate: Medium body. Slightly sweet and a moderate bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Dominating malt base. Some hoppy notes. And a fine fruity background.
Overall impression: One of the most fresh and tasty heller bock I have tasted.
Personal stats: Bottle from a trade with Grima

Poured a crystal clear amber with a broken white head. The aroma is big yeast and malt. The flavour is also dominated by that "Belgian" yeast. with some yeast and a strange and not entirely pleasant bitterness on the palate. Not a great example.

Bottle @ home. Golden yellow colour with a medium head. Smells grassy, malts, hops. Tastes malts, grassy, fresh and slightly hoppy. Thin to medium body, nice carbo.
