Roman Candle was the first Bellwoods IPA. If you’re looking for a perfect, no-nonsense, hoppy and hazy American IPA, this is your jam. It provides you with all the excitement of a real roman candle, but without the common risks associated with pyrotechnics.
A hazy, dank and lightly resinous beer that showcases lots of juicy melon, apricot, and orange peel. Show Less

Bottle shared at my 5K tasting at Bruce’s pad, from an IP trade with my man from Toronto, 13/11/13. Hazed golden orange with a good sized off white head. Nose is earthy hops, grassy, bitter citric tones, dank pine, grapefruit. Taste comprises mandarin, earthy, orange pith, bitter grapefruit, light pine bite. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry grassy finale with semi aggressive hop bitterness. Very drinkable IPA with dank undertones.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - cheers, Colin! Pours mostly clear, bright gold with a creamy white head. The nose has a bit of dank hops, pee, sweat, grapefruit. Light to medium sweet flavor, modest pithy citrus, melon, grapefruit, mild pine needles. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish, citrus pith, grapefruit, lemon. Great stuff. Wonderful balance.

Bottle: Poured a light hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrus hoppy notes with some floral and fruity hops notes also distinguishable. Taste is also dominated by tropical fruit hops with some citrus and floral hoppy notes and limited bitterness. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very good interpretation of the style with limited bitterness.

Purchased at Bellwoods Brewery in Toronto, ON; enjoyed at a Super 8 hotel room in Chinatown while hanging out after going to the brewery. Appearance is a moderately dark gold with a rich white head. Aroma is very potent in citrus hops, smells extremely fresh and delicious, almost more fresh than many other IPA’s I’ve had. Taste is also very fresh, primarily citrus hops, but there is something light and fruity about this that makes it exceptional. Great IPA, hard to pin point why it’s great, but it’s just great.

Bottle - Intense pine and grapefruit. Clear gold thick white head. Fresh pine and a hit of bitterness that has a clean finish. Very reminiscent of Heady Topper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hop juice, mangoes, pine, brown sugar, herb-like flavor. Good but lacks a little something.

Draught at the brewpub
Hazy amber color. Very nice hop aroma, very animal. Good body strength, maybe the crystal malt is unnecessary; moderate residual sweetness; strong hopping, again, animal more than fruity or resiny.

A golden ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a pungent herbal malt with light catnip, fruity notes. In mouth, a nice orange pulp malt with Belgian hops, very smooth. Called Roman Bathouse. Cask at Beau’s Oktoberfest Sept 29 2012.

(draught sample of a friend’s pint at the brewpub, Sept 28 2012) Poured a slightly hazed pale orange with a thin white head that left no lacing. Aroma fruity and tropical, orange and mango noticeable along with a good helping of pine. More fruit in the taste giving some acidity, a little malt sweetness but not much, and spicy, sticky pine resin. Bitterness fairly restrained on the finish. Light to medium body, soft carb. Very good, balanced and tasty IPA.
