This barrel-matured beer was originally tapped as "bitter" in English pubs. Only when it was bottled did it become "pale ale". At the beginning of the 1980s, the first craft brewers in the USA adopted the old brewing style and reinterpreted it. This is how “pale ale” became the beer that still stands for the craft movement like no other. A real alternative to the Pilsner!

Ambar, nebulosa.

0.33 l bottle from the Berlin Airport Duty Free shop, shared with Ogi and Marko. Unclear orange, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, herbs, earthy and light cardboard. After a swirl intense sharp herbal note. Moderate carbonation, medium body. Malty caramely flavour, some herbs, light bitterness, dry finish.

0.33l bottle courtesy of Hrabren who shared it with Ogi and me. Hazy lightly darker amber body, off-white head. Classic old school jelly-tea-light cardboard sweetish continental pale ale aroma. Lean, dry, tart taste, lime mostly, dry, lightly grainy. Old school, fine enough, but not something I'd return to I guess, at least bottled.

Draught Very stable, dense, off-white head over finely carbonated copper beer. Very aromatic, lunaria, nectarine dominated nose. Bit other grains, which would become oppressive if more pronounced. Sweet - bit citrussy flavours. Bitterness utterly absent. Smooth, quite slick, and malty aftertaste. Medium bodied, good carbonation. Run-of-the-mill.
