Mermaid’s Red™ bucks the shallow mid-range red ale stereotype. Loaded with Cascade hops, it delivers a fresh floral aroma and sharp bitter notes, all while delivering a solid kick of roasted malts that fades seamlessly into a rich, chocolaty finish with hints of clove and caramel.

Another far too bitter red, which is pretty common in california. But on top of that it needs quite a bit more body and caramel malt. Water front bar SD.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 19A). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: predominant medium malt aroma with toffee/caramel notes followed by a low hop aroma with pine, resin and slight ripe melon. APPEARANCE: slight dark amber color and translucent. medium-large ivory head with medium retention. TASTE: initial hop flavor with pine/resin notes and slight fruity tones, followed by a balanced caramelly flavor. supportive medium-high bitterness with a semi-dry and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-low to medium body with moderate carbonation. no astringency. OVERALL: an american amber ale where the hop presentation started to dwindle.

12oz bottle. Filtered brown-amber bdoy. Doughy, mellow aroma. Leaning into Brown Ale, creamy, smooth malt tones. More balance and enjoyable than I had anticipated. Touches of vanilla. Caramel brown-sugar. Very well balanced. Very enjoyable for the style.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market in Haverhill, MA. Aroma is strong citrus over floral hops on top of bready malt. Appearance is dark orange, reddish amber with slight haze, two finger-width frothy off-white head with light sparkle and soapy lacing. Taste is floral/citrusy initial sweetness that yields to a moderate malty toasted-roasty flavor that ends lightly burnt. Palate is medium bodied with lively carbonation with fairly dry finish. Overall, there is fairly strong, balanced hop/malt balance here. Nice.

Bottle from Fyne Ales’ brewery tap. Clear auburn body with a thick beige head. Lively fizz. Good lacing. Aroma of strawberry, caramel and dried leaves. Flavour of candy, toffee, stewed tea and menthol. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. It’s very sweet but there are just about enough hops to provide the balance.

Bottle shared with dad. Nice deep dark red color, medium sized off-white to beige head. Aroma is malts, hops, caramel, overripe fruits. Taste lightly malts, hops, caramelised sugar, sweetish and bitter at the same time. Medium body and carbonation. Ok beer.
