(Bottle, from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam) Black colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, cacao, bourbon, vanilla and oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, bourbon, vanilla, oak wood, cacao and a generous coffee bitterness in a finish with a slight bourbon glow. Full body, almost oily mouthfeel. A certain sweetness coming through. Lots of coffee and chocolate, combined with a rich bourbon character. Excellent H&V version.

At Mrk’s. Maakun’s share! Super massive thanks once again (for sharing 2 new top 10 beers within 24 hours)! Wax head Molen bottle (vintage 2013) pours an opaque dark glass of dark brown/near black beer with a beautiful tan head. Sweet roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, licorice, enormous bourbon, dark fruit, cheesecake, vanilla, alcohol (in a good -dessert liquor- kind of way). Very sweet with well matching burnt bitter counterpart. Palate is nice and round but the body is a little thinner than I expected, texture is slick. Hardly any carbo, but a light fizz which is moussing the brew nicely. Great De Molen glory.

Bottle shared for Timo’s birth, vintage 2013. Black with nice tan head that leaves a beautiful ring of tiny bubbles. Lots of sweet chocolate, vanilla, sweet red fruits, coffee, toffee, sweet berries, molasses, light bourbon and spices. Over medium sweet, touch of sourness and soft roasted bitter finish. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation. Super nice balance here, massive beer, really really good. If it had a bit more body it would be out of this world.

On tap at Brasserie 4:20 - Hel ’08 imp stout 11.9% charcoal black with ruby highlights & a tan head. The nose is umami chocolate powder & black licorice. Smooth velvety mouthfeel with a big roasty coffee, maple & chocolate flavor. Excellent.
