An Oak Aged Imperial Brown Ale with tons of oaky, woody flavors. The base brown malt profile provides a huge caramel, coffee and chocolate body with minimal hop bitterness matched perfectly with the complex flavor profile of the oak chips.

Odd pint, offering up traditional notes of apple, cocoa, nuts, and toast, but underscored by damp earth, yeast, and oh so much oak. Not sure the base beer is strong enough to stand up to this much wood; finishes like a two-by-four sandwiched between pumpernickel bread.

Clear, dark brown colored, medium beige-tan frothy head, short lasting. Aroma is of some toast, malt, bit nuts, light chocolate, caramel, too much woody tannins. Taste is medium sweet malt, toasty, bit chocolate, light nuts and caramel, again too much oaky tannins, some sweet vanilla notes, sweetish finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, creamy-sticky. Just too much tannins, overshadows everything else.

From the bottle. Brown with a creamy to frothy light beige head that lingers. Aroma full of oak, toffee, cognac and caramel. Taste is sweet to bittersweet, quite earthy with undertones of molasses. Noticeably bitterer at the finish, however ladened with a metallic note. Medium body, very mild carbonation that lends a slightly flat feel. Still a decent brew though despite the flaws.

Bottle bought in St Pete, FL. Pours a clear very dark mahogany color with a small beige head and decent retention. Spotty lacing. Dark fruit nose. As expected, tastes like dark fruit and molasses mixed with light whiskey. Smooth enough for an imperial beer but still rough for my liking. The 7.0 ABV is fairly well hidden.

Sampled from a bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized foamy orange-tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was very woody with red meat and smoke. The flavor was smoke, wood, malt, red meat and bread crust. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Odd.

(Thanks, Jim! "ozzy70") Bottle. A- Malty, bready, caramel, cocoa. A- Dark brown red color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Cocoa, dry, stale coffee, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Actually had some sorta high expectations with this knowing what Saugatuck does with some of their beers. Seems they left a lot on the table with this one, pretty boring, but much potential.
