Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty woody chocolate and licorice aroma. Roasted malty bourbon, chocolate and licorice flavor with bitter hints. Has a roasted malty chocolate bourbon woody finish.

Bottle. Chocolate fudge malt and tobacco aroma. Black with tan head. Sweet chocolate fudge malt. Mild bitter/ashy finish. Love the chocolate aroma and flavor in this.

Bottled. Pitch black colour, small head. Aroma is liquorice, alcohol, toffee, some mild raisins, ripe fruit and mild wooden notes. Flavour is toffee, liquorice, some caramel and mild alcohol. Thick and very pleasant.

Bottle thanks to Bruce and his very nice US haul. Opaque dark brown beer, little tan head. Light palate - smooth, very light for a big Impy. Mild fine carbonation. Rich dark chocolate, not heavy though. Mild dark malt tang and a little coffee and very light cream. Touch of dark fruits and aniseed alcohol. Hides the alcohol very well and is effortlessly quaffable for a beer of this style and weight.

Aroma has very dark chocolate, some cocoa, salty licorice, bourbon, vanilla, hints of soy sauce, smoke and distant oaky notes. Flavour has salty licorice, oaky notes, some sweetish bourbon, smoke, tar and vanilla. Whisky is slightly too strong here. Still rather delicious one.

Pours pitch black with a small light brown head. Lovely aroma of roasted malts, wood, vanilla, oak, hints of syrup and tobacco. Taste is smooth, sweetish, malty and roasty with notes of oaky wood, vanilla, some stingy notes as well. Finish is vinously smooth and warming with some hints of oaky wood, vanilla, bourbon and red wine. Excellent, well balanced and tasty imperial stout. Alcohol is well hidden.

This is the possibly infected 2012 vintage. Aroma is molasses, whiskey, oak, roast, chocolate and vanilla in that order or prevalence. There is quite a bit of alcohol in the nose, but it’s not too hot. Some low tobacco and leather notes. Some light cherry notes, but I am not getting much of an aroma that would lead me to think this bottle is infected. I am also not getting much maple syrup. This beer pours a jet black with a thin light brown layer on the edges that barely passes for a head. Just looking at this beer you can tell its viscous. Flavor is rich chocolate, molasses, some maple, whiskey and oak. Not as much vanilla in the flavor and little to no fruit esters. Only in the finish do I pick up what could be a hint of an infection but it could be some dark fruit notes mixing poorly with some light astringency. A bit of roast in flavor as well. Very low bitterness. The mouthfeel is thick and viscous with a low carbonation level. It is fairly sticky sweet, but the high alcohol content helps clear the palate. The alcohol is present in the flavor and aroma and has a pretty solid warming effect. Low astringency, but definitely there. Overall this is a really nice beer and the infection hasn’t really taken hold yet, but it’s there and given time it will. It’s definitely a slow sipping beer; I have spent at least 2 hours on this bomber. Second bottle had even less infection characteristics. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
