Tap at beer bar Fuga Cidade Funchal Madeira. A mostly clear brown red amber coloured pour with a lasting off white cream cap. Aroma is semi sweet, nutty toasted malts, dried fruits, raisin, some leafy hop. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty dusty malts, toffee, vanilla, piney hop, grassy, firm bitterness. Not bad. Palate is semi sweet, bitty moderate carbonation. Ok.

Tap at brewery. Clear copper colour, small off-white head. Light caramel and bread in the flavour. Light-bodied. Dry bisquity malty, spicey hops, light caramalt. Very good balance and drinkability.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 19A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L18092019 (BBF 062020). AROMA: medium metallic note, followed by faint hops (pine) and medium-low malt background with oxidation notes (stale). APPEARANCE: reddish-amber color and clear. medium beige head, creamy, with good retention. TASTE: initial medium yeast, stale malt with a caramelly character and oxidated hops. slight cereal husk. medium bitterness with a dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: an amber ale already past due (although still within its over optimistic best before date) and with some distraction issues.
