Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year's last canned seasonal, Aloha B'ak'tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B'ak'tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

From a can into a pint glass, Pretty much black, very nice dense light tan head. Toffee and dark roast aroma with milk chocolate notes. Mainly straight forward light moderate roast flavors. Light bodied and a touch metallic at the end. Doesn’t taste as big as %7.

Can from Beer Hive, Edinburgh [131113]
Jet black with a tan head
Aroma - dark sweet malts, chocolate, slight pepper, touch of smoke, dab of treacle
Taste of dark sweet malts, sweet rich dark chocolate, soft roasted malts, soft peppery heat, little spicy, dab of dark tangy fruits, good flavour
Palate - Medium carb and body, quite smooth. Finish of dark chcolate, fairly dry, some dark fruits, light lingering pepper heat
Overall - Nice stout, soft peppery heat with some good chocolate in there, nothing over done here

Opaque black brown beer, good tan head. Airy palate, semi dry with fine carbonation. Soft dark malt, mildly tangy with mellow roast and smoke. Dry finish with an earthy malt aftertaste. A bit dull and a disappointment!

Can from Bier Huis, Ossett. Not sure how a 7% beer brewed with chocolate and spices (which spices?) can end up so thin. Everything is in the aroma.

Can from Appellation Wines, Comely Bank. Pours very dark brown with a big tan head, which goes quite quickly. In fact, the carbonation dissipates very fast. Chocolate, liquorice, smoke notes. No chilli heat on the taste, which is a good thing, but otherwise the beer I’ve been least impressed with from this brewery.

Bottle at Dean’s Birthday Tasting, August 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a glass hugging tan head. The aroma is creamy malt leading to a medium bitter flavour with some liqourice alcohol and citrus fruit on the watery but refreshing palate.
