Scaldy Porter is an old homebrewing recipe and has been a favourite amongst the scaldys for some years now. A porter that doesn’t give a shite about what abv you reckon it should be, its focus is on pushing a big malt bill to your nose and bringing you back to your scaldy days if you’ve settled down by now. Lashing together 7 malts with a touch of smoke thrown in, it finishes soft and malty with a back bitterness you know should be there. EBC 100+.

Sample (thanks omhper!). Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is toasted malts, some dried fruits, mild grassy and some berries to it. Flavour is toasted malts, some toffee, mild dried fruits, a bit bitterness and also some ashes in the finish.

Can 44 cl. Pours a clear, dark brown with an orange hue and a beige head. Pleasant, nutty aroma with a subtle roastiness. Medium body, same mix of nuts and perhaps licorice with a slight roastiness. Vague underlying sweetness, perfectly balanced by light hops. A rather wonderful Porter.

Can from Systembolaget. Nice to get an Irish porter in the bolaget. Gentle and quite nondescript aroma. Browny black colour with thin lasting foam. Nice easy taste with this kind of spicy yeast feeling. You get the blend of malts that are mentioned - nice use of a gentle smokey malt. Decent.

Draft: Poured a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is rich roasty, ashy, chocolate. Taste is roasty, malty, chocolate, light smoke, that malt sticks around in a semi-dry finish.

--Canned, from Systembolaget. -- Very dark brown, mid sized head. Mild aroma of schocolate with a whiff of smoke. Dryish with light to medium body and clean mouthfeel. Slightly metallic and sharp, faint smoke, faint chocolate. Mid bitter finish. Sketchy, sharp and not the quality you'd expect in an Irish porter.
