Scaldy Porter is an old homebrewing recipe and has been a favourite amongst the scaldys for some years now. A porter that doesn’t give a shite about what abv you reckon it should be, its focus is on pushing a big malt bill to your nose and bringing you back to your scaldy days if you’ve settled down by now. Lashing together 7 malts with a touch of smoke thrown in, it finishes soft and malty with a back bitterness you know should be there. EBC 100+.

440ml can at home. Pours inky black, tan to brown medium head. Lovely roasty notes here, some bitter coffee and hazelnut. Slight bit of smoke in the flavour. Nice soft mouthfeel. Really enjoyable

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [300516]
Pitch black, frothy tan head, good lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, good nose
Taste of roasted malts, slight smoky roast, bitter dark chocolate, some bitter hops, robust flavour, not too roasty
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, good rich texture, soft bitter. Finish is quite dry, roast coffee, bitter chocolate linger
Overall - Well made, nice porter. Should be in a 500ml bottle.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Tom L. Black with a tan head. Nice roasty aroma with chocolate. Sweetish flavor with roast, chocolate, coffee note, and a somewhat bitter finish. Medium-bodied. A good one.
