Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 22B). Bottle 56 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: hop aroma moderate-high with a citric, resiny, piny character, complemented by a moderate background of sweet malt with toffee, very faint caramel and gentle dried grapes. APPEARANCE: dark ambar color and slightly hazy. large, creamy, dark ivory head with good retention. some lacing/legging formation. TASTE: initial sweet toffee-like malt with moderate intensity, followed by a medium-low hop presence with notes similar to aroma (citric / piny). The malt is complex, showing also toasty and slight caramel notes. slight peppery alcohol also present. medium-high bitterness enduring after a semi-dry fonosh. balanced. PALATE: medium to medium-high body with a slight velvety texture and a present alcohol warmth but smooth. no astringency from hops. high carbonation. OVERALL: a very good american strong ale with a very present hop character and a complex malt to complement the presentation. the sample had a bit extra carbonation.

Bottle shared in NH. The bottle’s a few years old now. Pours clear reddish-gold with a frothy white head. The nose has leafy hops, pine, some toasted grains. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with rich grainy malts, jammy citrus, melon. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary finish, lots of bready malts, ripe orange. Not bad.

Draft at The Confessional. Poured a pretty amber-red color wwith a small, but fluffy white head. Aroma has a strong hop presence, juicy, some pine resin too. Flavor was sweet boozy malts, hops are certainly there. Pretty easy to drink, but could get you drunk real quick.

Draft pour pint at special brews. Pours a dark purple red color with a cream foam head. Spicey, malty aroma. Flavor.is heavy malt, light spice, and a roasted finish. Has a warming feel to it. I feel like this would be a nice winter beer, though it’s doing just fine here in the summer heat. Lingering malty, almost cinnamon like finish. Good beer here.

On tap at the brewery. Amber color with nice beige head. Aroma is hoppy and malty, berries, sweet jam. Taste is bitter caramel, earthy, just like it should be. An excellent Imperial Red Ale!

Aroma of grapefruit, pine, stone fruits, caramel.
Taste with about the same aromas, but with more caramel and biscuit and some more tea notes.
Medium, slick mouhfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes bitter-sweet, a bit dry, zesty, piney, with lots of smooth malts.
Very nice. Great example of an Imperial Red, smooth and with a good balance. Pretty filling though, I would prefer a bit more drinkability.

Bottle from Ammersin magazine Wien 5. Amber colored with huge off-white head. Nice light hoppy aroma with malt, caramel. Caramel malt, citrus hops in taste. Long hoppy bitter finish.

Bottle. Aroma lots of biscuity sugary caramel. Then intense hops, resiny, citrusy fruity. Hazy amber colour, stable head. Taste is hoppy, herbal, warming alcohol, also lots of the caramel. Interesting beer and a very good one.
