The history of the bible and religion is indeed the struggle of good vs. evil. Our Serpent’s Stout recognizes the evil of the dark side that we all struggle with.
This is a massively thick and opaque beer that begs the saints to join the sinners in their path to a black existence.

Bottle. Pitch black, medium beige head, not so lasting. Mildly malty, slightly roasty and some whisky aroma, a bit of chocolate. Slightly burning alcohol, some sweetness, berries, medium bitterness. Slight blackcurrant and coffee finish. Gentler but lasting aftertaste. Strong roastiness. medium body. A bit too roasty for me, but ok.

Bottle @ Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade. Pours deep brown, almost black with slight hues. Amazing dark foamy head. Aromas of loads of dark fruits, chocolate, toffee, earth. Pretty boozy taste with dark malt, chocolate, toffee, coffee and slight tartness.

Corked bottle. Almost black and opague, huge head. Cream, dark chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Roast, dark chocolate, alcohol and coffee in the flavor. A very big stout in all aspects. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Delicious!

Lost Abbey is held in high estimation and this is my first try with an imperial stout from them. I got the bomber in Chicago the middle of last year on a Cubs holiday. I remove the cage and cork (caution with that, just saying) and pour into my Great Heights Brewing snifter to determine a brown-black body finished topside by a exuberant head of very fine-bubbled foam. Pleasant scent, berry, chocolate and wheat bread. And then a taste, very decent, not life changing. I find charcoal, tobacco, leather, a bit of dark fruit and some dark chocolate. It tilts to the heavy side, I would prefer a little offset sweetness but that is me.

Taste at Trail's End. Pours black, with a medium, bubbly, brown head. The aroma is mocha, anise, cocoa powder, light brandy, toasted oak, and pecans. Sweet and malty, with a mild, pleasant, roasty bitterness. Heavy body, with a syrupy, chewy mouthfeel. Big and well made. Aggressively roasty. Nice.

Bottle, from City Hops. Pours opaque dark brown with large spongy tan head, mocha-rum aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter mocha taste with cocoa nibs flavor, faint alcohol undertones, full body, long medium bitter mocha finish, well covered ABV, very fulfilling.
