This is a well made beer and worth trying. The aroma is alcohol and malt, and it has the same two qualities in the flavor. As Tejas wrote, it is dry, and I believe ruined by the alcohol flavor.

Draft. Mahogony colored beer with a thin white head. Spicey, malty aroma. Sweet malt flavors with some holiday spiceiness. A touch of fruit. Slight roastiness. I don’t remember it being this good - but I’ve only had it in bottles before.

Bottle Pours a hazy very dark borwn, with a thick light tan head. Lots of fine lacing. Aroma is spicy and lots of dark malt. At the same time a bit sweet and fruity. Taste is plenty of hops and a strong woody bite. the ABV is noticeable. Feel is a very lively carbonation and trailer of bitter tree bark flavors. A winter seasonal that I am not too fond of.

Very dark copper colour with a nice off-white head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt and a light spiceyness. Medium-bodied; Spicey start with malt, toffee, coffee and ~56% cacao noticeable. Aftertaste very clean-but some sweetness shows. Overall, a decent beer for the season, but nothing impressive. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 28-December-2003.

Snow Cap grew on me over the course of drinking the bottle. Decent malt complexity (dark fruits, caramels) combine with spices and bittering hops to produce a solid, if not spectacular, seasonal ale. I thought the spices were distracting, preventing some of the malt complexity from becoming apparent. A rich beer for a cold winter night.

2003 Bottle. True to the description its a fairly dark mahogany. Small orange-beige head. Clear. Smells of Goldings hops, quite dry. Begins with a relatively very large bitter hops flavor with lingering acidity through the body. Finally on the very end, some malt, mostly light cherry flavored comes out. Moderate complexity, some woodiness, touch of spices. Medium body, quite carbonated. Too unbalanced at the beginning. Bitter, dry hops overpower this beer. Tastes like a typical unbalanced IPA. I guess it gets more palatable as it warms, but still needs work.

2002 Bottle: This is a decent enough seasonal. Pours a dark brown color with a medium thin off-white head that lasted almost the entire glass. Minimal lacing. Aroma of malt, nutmeg (?) and brown sugar. Flavor is rich and strong in alcohol and malt flavors although the ABV really isn''t that high. Finish is rather sweet and nutty. Of the seasonals I have tried this year, it is better than average.
