Perhaps no country embraces the use of fruit in beers more so than Belgium. Numerous traditional as well as regional specialty ales are infused with every sort of fruit imaginable. In this way, the flavor of the fruit becomes especially prominent.
Red Poppy Ale is a veritable celebration of Sour Cherries in an explosion of aromas and tastes. Brewed from a brown ale base and aged in our oak barrels for over 12 months, this beer is not for the faint of heart.
The Golden Poppy is the state flower of California and the Red Poppy is found in Flanders Fields where our inspiration for this beer comes from. This beer is 6.5% ABV and is available in 375 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

Bottle to tulip.
Appearance: dark amber color with a one and a half fingers of off-white foamy head which took it's time to dissipate and leave some light lace
Aroma: dark fruits and noticeable dark cherries; white grapes, light leather, some vinous, light tart and sour character, earthy vibes, light Bretty tones
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine sour and tart character up front; finishes very vinous with some earthy and Bretty sour character
Texture: medium bodied, this is a sipper!; the tart and sour levels do act fairly aggressive to the tongue, I mean not total annihilation but it's very noticeable
Overall: in my opinion, I'd say a very nicely done Flemish red I would return to as a great ender for an evening.

20/IX/24 - on tap @ Borefts Day 1, Brouwerij De Molen (Bodegraven), BB: n/a (2024-1005) Thanks to the Brewver crew for sharing today’s beers!
Clear red brown beer, no head. Aroma: very funky, brett notes, vinegar, very sour impression, very intense acidity in the nose. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very sour, sharp acidity, too much vinegar. Aftertaste: a little bitter, some tannins, dry, decent flemish red.

On tap at Capone’s in Norristown, PA. 2013 vintage. Mahogany brown color with red highlights. Creamy tan head. Earthy, tangy nose has notes of dried fruit and funk. Flavor is tart and smooth. Dark cherry, yeast, barnyard funk, earth and oak. Incredibly smooth and approachable. I’m guessing that the years have mellowed and rounded out the flavors. A bit pricy at $14 for a 5.5 ounce snifter, but I had to taste this elusive brew.

Bottle. A- Cherry, mild funk, subtle balsamic vinegar. A- Reddish brown color, slightly hazy liquid, beige head. T- Cherry, tart, mild funk, subtle balsamic vinegar, oak, tannic. P- Medium body, average texture, medium carbonation, complex finish. O- Really lovely sour cherry flavor with only a tinge of funk. Acidity is fairly mild and back up with a balanced oak flavor. Not sure what poppy really adds, but like this probably better than I rated it.
