My wife brought this one back from a trip to Rochester. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large sudsy brown head that faded quickly and left almost no lacing. The aroma was enticing with a blend of cream, vanilla and toasty malts. The flavor disappointed by being notably dry, bitter and roasty with notes of wood and smoke. Medium finish and body. I had high hopes given the nose but the flavor was just not my style at all.

Tap @ the Brewery, Milford, NY. Served in taster glass. Also had in a 12 oz bottle from the brewery. Nice full, tan head that dies to a ¼ ring. Nose of roasted malt, not much else. But the taste is where this brew shines. The head brewer told me they use 50 lbs. of oatmeal flakes. And man you can tell! There is a strong roasted oat character with a good balance of chocolate and roasted bitter coffee notes. It has a good amount of body due to the oatmeal. As the brew warms it leaves a nice bitter lingering coffee finish. I think there is great flavor and I could drink lots of this. The pitcher retires the batters in order 1-2-3. Solid for the style.

Bottle. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has some sweet chocolate and bitter chocolate notes as well as a relatively strong roasted malt note. Flavor starts a bit thin with a hint of chocolate and quickly becomes full of roasted malts.

Bottle from Half Time. Cap has cute baseball stiching pattern. Pours black with a finely bubbled tan head. Aromas of smooth burnt malt and milk chocolate. Medium body; frothy carbonation. Burnt malt flavor, but not much chocolate and less coffee. Ok stout. That’s about it.

Bottle. Decent. Pours a dark brown-black with a substantial, creamy beige head, which says bye-bye all too quickly. Aroma first smacks you with tobacco, then some hints of coffee. Lots of burnt, crispy malts. Flavor has some mild sweetness, but plenty of bitterness. Tastes almost like charred meat, or burned toast, or popcorn that stayed in the microwave for longer than 2-3 seconds between pops. If you’re into this kind of thing, you very well may love this beer. Finish is pretty smooth, though. Medium body, medium to light carbonation. Aftertaste is roasty. Perhaps lacks some depth of character, which a little more body could help, but overall this really is a pretty solid stout.

This stout poured a deep rich black colour with a nice thick creamy tan head. To the nose there is scents of coffee, cocoa, smoke and caramel. the first taste was smooth but almost a little watery. Full coffee flavours but thin mouthfeel. Palate has a little bitterness and cocoa lingering along with the smoke.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt. The flavor is swwet malty with strong notes of hard roasted malt, giving it a slight acidic edge, but also a light touch of chocolate, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks to my friend Lez White in Baltimore for supplying me with this.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a clear, black with a reddish hue and a dense, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt. Fairly light body with lightly burned malt accents - hard roasted malt. The bitterness is fairly subdued. 270607
