German Style Hefeweizen

A light, clean, easy drinking Hefeweizen. This beer is categorized by a grain bill of 50% malted wheat and a German weizen yeast strain that is directly responsible for the distinctly complex flavors. Immediately evident in the nose, this brew is punctuated by esters of banana and clove. These aromatics reflect similar flavors detected during consumption.

12oz bottle. Definitely on the lighter side of the style. Drinks clean I suppose, but lacks much depth. Some wheat, like an American Wheat as much as a Hefeweizen. Filtered, so this is really a Kristalweizen....and for that, it isn't so bad.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear golden hue with a medium white head. A sweet nose of bubblegum and banana. The flavor is light, wheat, banana, some apple. Just lacking the robustness you get from the better Hefs.

Draft (Snow Wheat). Light lemon, banana and wheat malt aroma. Slightly hazy golden yellow with small head. Mildly sweet banana, orange, light clove and wheat malt flavor. Nice body. Very good - solid.

Cloudy gold beer, no real head. Light crisp palate, dry. Lightly sour wheaty citrus. Mild minerals. Crisp tart finish. That’s about it. A rare miss from Shorts - the worst I’ve had from them.

Refrigerated bottle from FlandersNed poured into a weizen glass. Pours cloudy golden with very small white head. Little lacing, medium body, low carbonation, slightly syrupy texture, and light wheat aroma. Taste is rich slightly tart lemon. Super easy to drink, good beer.

Bottle. Funky old basement, sour malt, spice aroma. Golden yellow with a minimal white head. Just like it smells. Sour malt, old basement, and some spice in the flavor. Light body. Another Shorts drain pour for me.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of northernbrews. Thanks! Pours a hazy yellow-pale orange color with a thin fizzy white head that fades quickly. Aroma of big banana, big clove, wheat and caramel. The taste is dry wheat, citrus, herbal hops. Medium bodied, average carbonation, fairly dry. Nice beer.

12 ounce bottle into weizen glass, bottled on 7/23/2012. Pours very hazy golden amber color with a small 1 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings to the glass, with a small amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big banana, clove, lemon zest, pepper, wheat, bubblegum, and yeast spiciness. Very nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of banana, clove, pepper, lemon zest, floral, wheat, bready grain, light bubblegum, and yeast spices. Light yeasty tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of banana, clove, lemon zest, wheat, bread, pepper, earth, and yeast spices on the finish for a bit. Very nice amount of flavor for 5% without feeling watery at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with pretty much no warming noticed on the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Hefeweizen. Great balance of flavors without feeling watery; and extremely easy to drink. I really have no complaints, very well done.

Accidental rerate 24-Jan-2014 (not my fault this time): 12 oz bottle as "Snow Wheat." What the hell, guys? You said this was never-before-bottled. Are you lying to me, or is RateBeer’s information wrong/outdated? Or is it a case of "slight tweak, not enough for a distinct beer on RB?" I guess I’m gonna have to assume good faith from all involved. Anyway, here’s what I wrote before I ran into this: Very little haze in a golden pour with a white head. Heavy yeasty bubble gum and clove aroma. Light flavor of breakfast cereal, yeast, and pear. Falls a bit short.

Accidental rerate 10-Jun-2013: 12 oz bottle. Pours golden with a white head and a relatively light haze for the style. Bubble gum yeasty wheatiness and pear/green apple in the aroma. Light palate gives the pear and bubble gum up front with a body of wheat, like breakfast cereal, making up its base. Obviously a lighter take on the style, with clean flavors that go well. 7/3/7/3/13/3.3

Original rating: 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light golden with a small white head. Bubble gum and clove in the aroma, hint of lemon. Yeasty clove and bubble gum flavor with definite wheat that wasn’t noted in the aroma. Clean flavors, a pretty nice light wheat beer. 6/3/7/3/14/3.3
