Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a nice light tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and herbs. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and straw, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

An amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, an interesting green peppercorn, with fruity esters, nice and smooth. In mouth, nice smooth saison-like offering, with nice pepper notes, malty and smooth, a bit of orange pulp. On tap at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Maybe I got a bad bottle, but I’m not tasting the pepper that everyone says is so overpowering. This tastes like a run-of-the-mill pilsner as much as anything. Nothing special, really.

Bottle thanks to a generous trader. Pours clear amber. White head. Nose/taste of cracked black pepper, pineapple, hops and sweet malt. The cracked black pepper dominates both nose and palate but still melds nicely into the brew. Spicy cracked pepper finish. Medium body.

12oz. single bottle, $1.50 at Woodman’s. Cloudy, autumnal brown pour with bits floating around. Bubbly auburn head. It does smell like black pepper. Some nut brown malt behind it, like a Newcastle beaten into submission. Yup, a very black pepper-forward beer. I’ve had other beers with black pepper, they were mostly Saisons with plenty of spiciness already. But this shows just how well it can work in a beer. Could it even go without hops as a gruit? Well worth finding in Wisconsin, unless the Governor there gets his way and kills the craft brewing scene.

Red amber with a small white head. Aroma has lots of pepper, some caramel and fruit. Fruity and caramel flavour with lots of pepper and a medium hot finish. Quite interesting, but wouldn’t be my go-to pale ale
