THE ALE: This ale has a well-rounded aroma of citrus notes, clove, and apple. It is refreshing and soft, with balanced hints of bitter orange peel and coriander. It finishes dry and clean, making it perfect for pairing with lighter foods such as mussels, salmon, and chicken.

THE STORY: Naked Nun was named to mark the time in Colombia when Del was robbed by bandits while hiking down from Cerro de Monserrate. They took his wallet, watch and every stitch of clothing. After hiding for a while behind some sheep, he finally got the attention of some local nuns, who were nice enough to give him a blanket and bus fare to get back home. Technically, he was the naked one, but Naked Gringo just didn’t have the same ring to it!

Adelbert's has been a source of well received brews. But witbier is far from my favorite style. How about a try on this 750 ml bottle from Santa Fe, NM? Job 1, get the cork out. Not easy. Strongly tilted into my snifter tasting glass it exhibits a striking yellow body and a promptly gone, whitish head. Lifting for a smell there is floral and some yellow fruit. A drink, well now, better than anticipated. It comes with grain, almost-sweet nectarine, bread. More spice than any witbier tried before and that is good. Drink again? Probably not.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Cloudy light orange with big fluffy white head. Aroma is light coriander, medium body, medium carbonation, and thick big-bubble lacing. Taste is coriander, apple, and hints of orange. A little too much coriander for me.

750ml corked and caged bottle. Batch 16 Bottled more than a year ago..crime against beer that I let it sit so long. Testament to the quality of the beer and the bottle conditioning that it held up rather well. Hazy yellow-tan body. A Wit, but has some depth, nice yeasty notes, oats, spices. A lot of depth for the medium to light body.

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy light gold with a foamy/fizzy white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast/spice and coriander. Med body (thanks to carbonation). Flavor is a bit zest, a bit earthy, quite citrus/clove, and arguably coriander. It’s pretty tasty, and I think it’s one of the tastier wits I’ve had lately. Arguably a little underrated. I’m liking it.

Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Light funky brett, lemon, and coriander aroma. Cloudy yellow with a moderate white head. Funky barnyardy brett, coriander, and lemon flavor. Medium body and carbonation. Not your typical wit, but I really liked the bretty twist.
