THE ALE: This ale has a well-rounded aroma of citrus notes, clove, and apple. It is refreshing and soft, with balanced hints of bitter orange peel and coriander. It finishes dry and clean, making it perfect for pairing with lighter foods such as mussels, salmon, and chicken.

THE STORY: Naked Nun was named to mark the time in Colombia when Del was robbed by bandits while hiking down from Cerro de Monserrate. They took his wallet, watch and every stitch of clothing. After hiding for a while behind some sheep, he finally got the attention of some local nuns, who were nice enough to give him a blanket and bus fare to get back home. Technically, he was the naked one, but Naked Gringo just didn’t have the same ring to it!

750 Ml bottle from Kegs and Barrels, Plano, TX. Paid $7.79 Batch 002 Bottle number 220 with a date of 5/18/12. Nose is just as the bottle describes, coriander, orange peel and wheat. Tulip glass shows a hazy yellow that reminds me of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. The coriander spice is down played and shows up only lightly. And I’m grateful for that. Light in body with a clean, effervescent carbonation. Lots of lemon and wheat. Easy drinking and rather refreshing.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a white head. Quite some coriander and yeast in the nose. Light body, excessive bubbly carbonation. Quite a spicy edge to it in a pleasant way, no soapy coriander here. Absolutely no bitterness. 150812

5000 beers and no end sight. On draught at the Draught House brewpub. The beer is a slightly hazy yellow-orange color with a medium rocky white head that burns away steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of sweet spices, banana and malt. Light-bodied with a sweet banana and yeast character along with notes of clove and malt. The finish is sweet with notes of citrus and banana left behind. Decent Wit overall.

Bottle with great thanks to T&E. Pours dusty lemon orange with white head. Nose/taste of lemon, grassy and spicy hops, coriander and wheat malt. Medium body. Solid beer. I’d like to have more from them.
