A huge, sweet Barley Wine with complex caramel malt notes, balanced by generous hopping and a high alcohol content. This fruity and malty beer is best enjoyed while keeping warm in the brutal winter months. January release.

2013 vintage Golden Amber / red Nose is loaded with Tobacco and super spicy peppercorn. Very bitter beer….like this was once a hop bomb and just faded and very intensely chewy. A lot of very biscuity and loaded with tobacco and cloves. Too intense actually in sweetness, caramel and tons of spice.

22 oz. bottle that is one year old. Hazy Amber color with decent level of carbonation. Lace down the side of the glass. Nose is Crystal malts, toffee, orange spice and tobacco leaves. Flavor is much the same with plenty of bitterness. Tobacco leaves mixed with toffee and caramel. Level of bitterness is real high. I guess it should sit a bit longer. Not buying into the hype on this one.

22 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass; Fall 2011 Ohio bottling with yellow wax. Pours slightly cloudy reddish orange color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big caramel, grapefruit, orange zest, orange rind, tangerine, toast, toffee, raisin, pear, floral, grass, pine, brown sugar, and floral/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, tangerine, toast, floral, brown sugar, raisin, pear, light pine, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light earthy floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, caramel, toast, brown sugar, pear, raisin, floral, light pine, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a nice bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent barleywine style. All around great balance and complexity of malt and hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

From a 22 oz bottle shared on the road in South Carolina. Pours a hazy amber with a massive creamy off white head. Sweet hoppy aroma. Flavors of caramel and some grassy hops. Really nicely put together. Tasty.

Barleywines are not my favorite style of beer. Usually, they’re much too sweet and too boozy to really work for me. That said, Behemoth is easily one of the best I’ve tried. It is sweet, but not cloyingly so. I don’t feel like I’m drinking medicine or something. And though I can feel the alcohol, the beer isn’t dominated by an underlying hard liquor element. This is a beer I might actually drink again sometime. Pours a rather hazy, brownish-yellow, with minimal, quickly dissipating head. There’s a fruity, hoppy aroma and the flavor is a bitter-sweet combination of malt and hops, with a satisfying mouthfeel and bitter finish. My bottle had orange wax on it (2013?).

Red wax bottle: Cherry, oats, and orange nose approaching that of apricot. Cloudy amber, fine floaties, thick yellow head. Overripe orange, triple sec. Ethereal mouthfeel, but boozy.

Bottle. Hazy deep amber liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of pine, toffee, coconut, light caramel, toast, light citrus and light portish oxidisation. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with notes of resin, toffee and light oxidisation. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Great stuff.
