Évaluation no. 111 Août 2011 Nez très malté avec houblons floraux. Couleur brune / noire. Mousse moyenne. Attaque de caramel et de chocolat. Les malts sont très présents. Bon équilibre. Bonne scotch ale.

Big 750ml brown bottle from my local Métro store, now written 9% ABV. Pours a deep ruby-amber colour with a creamy beige head that has great retention and thick lacing. Loads of apples for aromas, with some hop taking over after breathing. Notes of cocoa and vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel and full-bodied. Not sure if my taste buds are dead, but I do not feel any alcohol burn. Smooth as light beer, but with lots more taste. Again, the mix of apples and hop are quite nice and refreshing. Mild roasted malt with hints of nuts, chocolate and caramel. Quite pleasant and goes down too well for such a strong dark beer.

Bouteille 750ml.

Bottle: Poured a dark burgundy color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized sugar with solid malt notes and light offer is quite enjoyable though a bit too much alcohol is also perceptible. Taste is a nice mix between some caramelized sugar with light toffee notes and balanced sweetness though again alcohol is too omnipresent. Body is above average with good carbonation and even though alcohol esters are evident they are not overshadowing the taste profile. Good but could be even better of less alcohol ester.

A deep dark reddish brown ale with a thin creamy moka head. A nice aroma of caramel, butterscotch, , fruity esters, light peaty notes, and dark fruits. In mouth, an oily sweet molassey malt, with dark fruits, peaty scotch barrels, sweet candy sugar, veering on Belgian. Rich and smooth. On tap at brewpub, March 20 2010.
