Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks Stas. 13.1%. Hazy orange. Malt, caramel, wood, vanilla, alcohol, some fruitiness, sweet and a bit umami, quite boozy.

On tap at the Ginger Man, pours a hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Nose is very harsh, with lots of harsh bourbon notes, loads of alcohol and caramel. Flavour is harsh but well-calibrated, with lots of bourbon barrels, alcohol and caramel. Intense, boozy and harsh, but cohesive nonetheless. Really nice.

Caramel in color with a light tan head. Sweet caramel malt, toast, a bit of chocolate, some dark fruits, oak, caramelized brown sugar, light vanilla. Full, slick body. A bit bitter and boozy in the finish. Complex and enjoyable.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours copper with a transient beige head. Aroma is bourbon and brown sugar. Med + body. Flavor is treacle, bourbon, a little smoke, a little wood, a little pale stone fruit and a little heat. The heat is noticeable but rather pleasing. Very good stuff.

From a cheap bottle in market district this stuff pours with a thick rich visual darker pale appeal. Aroma of volatile malt. Way too much flat viscous high alky effects causing dizzy affects. Almost gets cloying, but is not. WOoooOW on this one. Hell, yes, wood can’t find. Some whisky flavors haunting the back of my palate but never get slimed. Not sure if aging would make this like a REAL old country barley wine. I don’t think it could ever be trained to be civil & sweet. Another wannah bee but at least its cheap, and a good bzzzzzzzzzzzzz. In the end its rude and in yer face, ballz all the way to the wooden wallz, I guess. Drink 2 and get shit canned. Domestic barley wine fer sher. We ned to make 2 categories of barley wine; European & other countries or more likely euro and american barleywine. How about this for 2 categoris of BW; real and wannah beeeezzzz? Fuckin’ hell.
