There is a much debate in the brewing world about the difference between porters and stouts. At one time the two were even considered synonyms. Nowadays porters are often more malted, while stouts tend to be more roasted in flavor. When we decided to add a dark beer to our repertoire we chose to pursue the rich, chocolate tones of a porter. This ale continues to gather accolades in the beer world for its strong malt backbone and well-balanced, bitter hops.

Draft: Poured a black color porter with a large brown foamy head with ok retention and some good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt notes with some dry black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix of roasted malt notes with some dry chocolate notes with some faint coffee notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Standard porter that paired well with their BBQ offerings.

12 oz bottle bought in Bar Harbor, Maine. Pitch black pour with a beige head and very good retention. Very good lacing. Has a nice, deep rich dark chocolate and dark roasted malt flavor. No coffee notes. Medium body. Smooth.

Pours a dark brown from a bottle, big toasty aroma, sweet caramel taste with a cola aftertaste. A little fizzy. Good beer.

This porter poured a deep black colour with a creamy, tan coloured head. A little lacing. Scents include roasted malts, wine and cocoa. First swig was delicious. Flavours of roasty malts and dark cocoa most prominent. Finish is burnt with minimal bitterness. Fantastic! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, caramel, but slight methane/port-o-potty smell when returning the nose to the glass. Appearance is dark brown with finger width light brown head with poor retention and trace lacing. Taste is more bitter coffee and cigarette ash than sweet dark fruits and caramel. Palate is medium bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and bitter ash finish. Overall, something slightly off in the aroma and a bit more ash flavor than I’d care for. Lives up to its name.

Bottle sample at the last tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Alexey. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Aroma of roast, licorice and mild fruitiness. Bittersweetish flavor with roast, mild fruitiness and a bit of coffee. Medium-bodied, quite over-carbonated.
