La Curtius is a blond beer brewed using premium quality products, recognizable through its light taste and refreshing flavors. Composed with different barley malts and wheat, its base gives it a pleasant lightness while the addition of aromatic hop blossoms provide a subtle bitterness in conjunction with a flowery and fruity flavor. Its unique and progressive taste is the result of multiple fermentation steps, conducted over several months. Curtius deserved a quality and prestigious bottle suitable for the contents. This is why we chose a 37.5 cl corked bottle, just like champagne. Of course, Curtius is also available in kegs.

Many thanks to Rian for sharing the 37,5cl bottle. Smooth sourish note. Smooth bitter-sweet nose. Fresh, smooth. Nice but a bit mouldy. Nice smooth-mild yeasty. Very yeasty-smooth, fresh. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, fresh-yeasty-sweetish, smooth and great!

The first beer from a new brewery in Liège, in a 37,5 cl geuze bottle. Medium thick, stable, off-white, sticky head, colour pale blonde, misty. Strongly lightstruck and phenolic aroma of sulphur, plastic, burnt rubber, fortunately redeemed by more friendly impressions of apple, vanilla, grass; soft apply onset with lightly sourish wheat touch, mellow mouthfeel, malt sweetness, some vanilla sugar, finishing in a late leafy hop bitterness, medium long. Tasted not as bad as expected, but the aroma ruined it for me.

37.5cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! Slightly hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of coriander seed, light malty, yeast, light fruity, floral. Flavour is likewise, reminded me a lot of La Chouffe, but somewhat lighter. Decent light Tripel.

Hazy golden coloured body with a very thin, half centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of pale malt, honey, grass, herbs, metal and a nice fresh yeast smell. Light-bodied; Very grassy and herbal up front with some pleasant light sweetness and a mild yeast and mineral flavour right afterwards. Aftertaste shows some light sweetness from honey and fruits with a stronger herbal and grass note and finishes with a dry floral maltiness. Overall, about what I was expecting - kind of bridging a gap between a belgian ale, a biere de garde and a saison. Nice to have on a warm/hot day to have maximum flavour and complexity without sacrificing the lightness and airy profile. Not my favourite belgie of course, but well worth bringing back home last time. I sampled this 37,5 cL ’split’ bottle purchased from Delices & Caprises in Bruxelles, Belgium on 19-August-2013 for €3,00 sampled at home on the other side of the Atlantic in Washington on 06-April-2014 a few days from going back to Europe.
