Can. Clear, dark brown in the glass, with a dense dark beige head. The aroma has toffee, dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malts, and hints of vanilla. It’s full-bodied and warming, smooth and sweet, with lots of dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malts in the flavor. Caramel sauce and some vanilla. Lasting finish. A bit too warming this one, else sure nice. 231125

16 oz. can from The Mansion. Pours a black motor oil color with a large dark tan head and excellent retention. A little nitro-like action too. Only minor spots of lacing. Dark roasted aroma. Very dark roasted malt flavor, bordering on burnt, with a little licorice flavor, and a dark bitter finish and some booze. No smoky flavor, as advertised. Strong but semi-smooth. Somewhat typical imperial stout with more alcohol than beer flavor. Kinda disappointing. Medium-heavy body. Very low carbonation. Medium bitterness.

Bottle. A- Roasty, cocoa, dry. A- Black color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Roasty, char, mild bitterness. P- Full body, thin texture, average carbonation, slightly dry finish. O- At 5 years old, this lost some luster I think. Not as much smoke influence as I thought. Fairly roasty and some dry bakers chocolate. Good enough.

Can. Clear, dark brown body under a small, but lacing dark beige head. Aroma has dark malt, coffee, hint of chocolate and alcohol. Taste is sweet dark malt, slightly harsh coffee, a faint touch of dark chocolate, a bit nutty, moderate bitterness and quite boozy. Medium body and same aftertaste. I didn’t get the smoke and chocolate flavors as many other ratings highlight, suspect this might have fade away during storage and being replaced with more distinct alcohol instead. Still one year and a half before best before date.

The aromas are sweet roasted vanilla, cocoa and black patent. Flavors are just like nose, sweet and vanilla dominate, with good carbonation to balance. Great body and finish. Super beer.
