Bottle. Dark brown, thin head, aroma is rich dark plummy fruitiness, with a touch of molasses and smoke. Quite the intense aroma. A big stout with tons of sweetness, dark burnt molasses. At this age the finish is a bit thin, with maybe some woodiness.

Bottle, Boise imperial stout tasting. Near black pour with a thin finger of creamy brown head. Huge aroma of roast and coffee, light cocoa and smoke. Same basic impact in the taste; a rich roasted malt with faint smoke, espresso, and hints of vanilla. Very big and flavorful. Finished a little bittersweet. Solid beer.

Bottle @ home, via trade via rotbox. This is the Vampire Slayer / 2nd Anniversary release from 2012 and was matured in my parent’s closet for three years. Pours a deep black appearance with a thin brown head. Quite a bit of anise / black licorice in the nose along with dark chocolate, light smoke, and roast. A touch thin. Even more black licorice and smoke in the mouth. A hint of spiciness. Moderate low bitterness and moderate sweetness. A little oxidized. Not hard to drink but also not all that flavorful. Ok.

655 ml. bottle. Purchased @ Willems & Zoon. The text & label is hilarious. Pours very dark to black, little mocha head. Nose is umami, licorice with some cheap chocolate sweetness, cacao, cheap instant coffee. Taste is umami cheap licorice, instant coffee, basic mocha mixed with touch soy sauce, herbal, cheap chocolate syrup, canned coffee, faint herbal brambleberry… Solid body, touch grainy, faintly powdery not as thick as you would expect. It isn’t a bad beer but I expect a lot more from an RIS to be honest. The running theme with Clown Shoes for me appears to be decent but not amazing or on par with the completion / other big names.

Solid imperial stout. The beer is wall to wall black. The head is medium brown and looks nice and creamy. Some lacing. Big chocolate flavor in the aroma. Caramel and brown sugar base below that big fudge note. Milder smoke with some tobacco-y roastiness provides some good depth to the sweetness. Sweet with a nice earthy quality. Lots of good sugariness knocking around in the taste. More chocolate with a bit more roast. Dries out some in the finish. Lingering smokey dark chocolate flavor. The body is full and pretty creamy. Not bad at all. Pretty easy to drink. Some booze but not too much and what’s there is warming and nice. This doesn’t blow me away, but it’s a good imperial stout and a hit from a brewery with a number of misses.

Bomber. Black with pretty tan lace. Huge nose or uamami, vanilla, soy, chocolate. Rich malt flavor, brown sugar, molasses, umami with a little soy. Very rich, a bit boozy, but well integrated. Great.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge convention, 24/01/2015. Many thanks to BeersIveKnown. Viscous black caramel coloured pour with a fleeting tan head. Aroma is smoked meat, ham, dark malts, molasis. Flavour is composed of hiney ham, berry, rounded caramle, smooth roast. Palate is sweet and viscous. Tasty stuff.

Bottle shared at a tasting, 3/30/15. Clear dark brown, thin fizzy tan head. Good retention. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, green hops. The taste is chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malt. Thin bodied, low carbonation, boozy.
