A sour ale from France - apparently the global craft beer movement is beginning to take on serious forms there... Eleven year old vintage bottle shared by JefVerstraete, cheers! Quite an impressive luxury bottle. Loosely knit, lightly lacing, off-white head, quickly reduced to a thin moussy ring on top of a misty, ochre-tinged amber coloured beer. Aroma of old dry peaches, apricot yoghurt, pineapple juice, sour cream, gooseberries, sweetbread, gherkins, old medium dry sherry, damp cellar. Sour and sweet in the onset, lots of gooseberry, some pear and pickled sweet gherkins, sour apple touch but sweet apricot as well; very soft carbo, bordering on flat. Smooth mouthfeel, bready malt sweetish core dried by lactic and fruity sourness, grapey, but remaining altogether fairly gentle, with a good balance of sweet and sour. Ends with some sherryish oxidation and damp cellar mustiness, along with warming, vaguely brandy-ish alcohol and a powdery 'dead yeast' effect. Not a bad effort at all, especially considering that in chauvinistic wine-dominated France, modern craft beer is still in its youth - and evolving seemingly more slowly than in other western European countries.

Bottle from 2007. Hazy yellow/amber colour, no foam, no carbonation. Tart, bretty, lots of lemon, barnyard, cellar notes. Refreshing and easy drinkable, reminds me a lot of a lambic.

Bit cloudy orange beige beer, no head. Aroma: funky, brett, sourish, bit dirty, wood notes, spicy, dusty. MF: no carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bit acidic, lots and lots of bitter tannins, very unpleasant, some vinegar. Aftertaste: oxidized, cardboard, sourish, dirty, pretty infected, don't like this...
