Hardywood Rye Whiskey Barrel Pumpkin combines the nostalgic flavors and aromas of autumn with a soul warming, rye whiskey laced finish that can only be achieved through months of maturation in rye whiskey barrels. Pleasantly mellow up front with a crescendo of pumpkin pie spice giving way to subtly sweet lingering brown sugar and rye whiskey notes, this beer just might bring new meaning to Thanksgiving.

Draft: Whiskey aroma. Clear amber, headless. Allspice and whiskey. Medium body, easy carbonation, boozy. No disrespect to the brewer, I’m sure this fairly well executed. To me , however, this is the sum of all things I don’t like in beer.

750ml bottle from Norms pours a clear, dark gold with a ring of white head. Nose has plenty of pumpkin spice and caramel, a touch buttery, heavy vanilla. Flavor follows lots of yam and marshmallow, plenty of spice, that sumac thing that follows their BA beers, caramel, cream soda. Finishes a touch sweet and boozy.

Location: 750 ml bottle from my Dad, 3/21/15
Aroma: The aroma is pretty similar to the base beer, Belgian yeast, pumpkin spice, and rye
Appearance: It pours an unclear golden-orange color with a small head and light, spotty lace
Flavor: The alcohol comes out a bit more in the flavor, but the pumpkin saison is still the star
Palate: It is medium bodied, with a lively carbonation, light heat, and a dry, spice finish
Overall Impression: Thanks Dad! I actually thought this worked really nicely. The rye whiskey plays really nicely with the underlying pumpkin saison flavor. The found an excellent balance between the barrel, pumpkin, and saison flavors actually. This totally works. Like a 14 seed making a Sweet 16 run, this is underrated.

Draft pour at Novemberfest 2014. Poured a golden amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some rye notes, lots of whiskey. Booze comes through. Some cinnamon notes. Flavor was alcohol, rye whiskey. Light pumpkin notes, some booze. Others liked it a lot more than I did, lots of alcohol heat. Sipper.
