‘Kon Minder’ is de kreet als een dolenthousiaste Groninger zijn waardering wil uiten. Kon Minder is een fris bier met een mooi fruitig hop karakter door onder meer het gebruik van Amerikaanse hoppen en sinaasappelschil. Zoals de brouwers zelf zeiden toen ze hun eerste biertje proefden, het kon minder!

Good, dense yellow head over coldhazed pale copper beer. Not much carbonation. Bit sharpish nose, malts, some hops, green leaves, carrots. Caramel, toasted, sharpish to scorched, cakebottom, sweet. Even a tad dusty. Light bodied, low carbonation, bit burning MF. Oh, well. Kon beter.

hazy pale yellow colour, moderate off-white head; aroma of citruses, peach, maybe some overripe tropical fruits, too; taste is also very fruity, with perfect balance of hopy bitternes and malty sweetness; good beer, though not as ’citrusy’ as I expected based on its label (’Citrus Pale Ale’) and the used hops

0,33 l bottle. Murky dark golden in the glass, small white head. Citrus and orange on the nose. Taste starts with hopy bitterness, smooth fruity, belgian yeast style. malt and caramel in the second row, present hop in the background until the end. Spicy. Honey sweetness. Less coriander. Interesting in a positive way.

’Citrus pale ale’ according to the label, from a beer company in the north east of the Netherlands, but apparently brewed in Belgium. Medium thick, beaten egg-white, moussy, dense and stable head, hazy warm ’old gold’ colour with slight peachy hue and some large bubbles rising up here and there. Aroma of dried orange peel, apricot, field flowers, coriander seed, melon, straw, white grapes, some lemon rind, lots of inoffensive ’dusty’ accents of cardboard, potato starch and baker’s yeast. Crisp berries in the onset, more sourish than sweetish, impressions of gooseberry, redcurrant, hint unripe pineapple, unripe peach; spritzy, vivid carbonation, perhaps a tad overcarbonated since this numbs the tongue a bit but this does not really bother me here. Light grainy, slightly caramelly and pleasantly bready malt background, supple and lean, supporting the berry-like esters as well as a soft spiciness which clearly comes (mostly) from the coriander but fortunately does not become too overpowering, though a certain bittersweet, soft spicy ’soapiness’ certainly coats the back of the mouth. Peppery, grassy hops show up in the end and lend the finish a pleasant soft yet persistent bitterness, but less aromatic ’citrusness’ than expected, though a certain New World hop fragrance is certainly there; I suspect this bottle is already a bit past its prime, still perfectly enjoyable of course, but something as delicate as Citra is probably already largely faded by now. I don’t quite understand why one uses ’Belgian-associated’ coriander seed in an American style pale ale, though: this beer comes closer to a Belgian blonde than to a true APA because of this (and because of the estery yeast features). Not considering this an APA but just a Belgo-Dutch blond quencher, I must say it is a pleasant, well-made, tasty little beer, I did enjoy it.
