Near opaque dark brown, small bubbly tan head. Smooth palate, a very mild dryness, reasonable fine carbonation on the back end. Soft chocolatey malts, a little dark malt cream. Ripe plummy fruits, a mild tang. The layered and rounded spices in the 1000 are duplicated here. Soft finish. Much better than the 1000 for me, the darker malts suiting the spice.

Bottled. Deep brown colour, close to black, with a small foamy longlasting head, which also leaves some lace. Aroma is cherries, liquorice, mild spiciness and some slight alcohol too. Flavour is alcohol, some spices, herbal, mild smoked wet wooden tones with some cherries, dried fruits and plum too.

250ml Bottle - Very dark brown with a foamy head. Liquorice, cherries and spices feature in the aroma and in the earthy, spicy and slightly sweet taste. Slightly smoky too.

(Bottle) Black colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with sweet espresso, liquorice, spices (cinnamon, anise, a touch of ginger) and cacao. Malty, roasted taste with notes of strong black coffee, liquorice, cacao, cinnamon, ginger, anise, cardamom and a balanced roasty bitterness. Full body, with slightly oily texture and a certain sweetness. Tasty, complex and quite well balanced. Very nice.

250ml bottle. Opaque, quasi black colour with late awakening, small, frothy, widely fading, minimally lacing, tan head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty aroma, cautious, slightly unpleasant, floral-herbal soapy interludes, probably ginger, a lavender touch as well, hints of aniseed. Taste is chocolately dark malty, slightly roasty, a nuttily touch, floral herbal interludes, hints of ginger, aniseed; dry, roasty dark malty finish. Better basic beer than the #1000, therefore the spices are more disturbing than an upgrading or intriguing addendum in this case.
