Asahi Super Dry was a direct result of extensive market research which indicated a consumer preference for a more palatable beer with less maltiness, relatively high alcohol content and a light aftertaste, that paired well with the changing Japanese diet. With this insight Asahi used its brewing knowledge to develop a beer with a crisp bite, refreshing taste and clear finish to satisfied this requirement. Code named project FX, Asahi engineered a highly attenuated, highly carbonated pilsner. The later renamed product, Super Dry began sales on March 17th 1987 and gave birth to the dry beer category. The market success spawned similar competitor products and initiated what was known as the “Dry Wars” in Japan and a brief marketing fad for dry beers internationally. However Asahi has stood the test of time and now years later Super Dry continues it legacy as the world’s premier dry beer.
Special Yeast - Asahi # 318 is the proprietary ingredient used to give Super Dry its “dryness”. This special strand of yeast produces high attenuation during fermentation in conjunction with the choice grains.
Finest Ingredients – Asahi uses select grains and hops sourced worldwide based on strict criteria to maintain flavor consistency and promote sustainability. Barely with high starch content and both noble style bitter and fine aroma hops are key contributors to Super Dry’s smooth taste.

0.33 l can from 'Kaufland', 5.2% abv, brewed in Italy, best before October 2022. Clear, golden with a medium large, foamy, stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly malty, minimally grassy-spicy aroma of grains, some straw and traces of lemon peel. Gently sweet, slightly malty, moderately bitter, a little grassy-spicy taste of grains, some straw, traces of honey and a touch of lemon peel, followed by a short, slightly bitter, moderately dry finish. Thin to medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Decent Lager.

2,600th rating! Pours a clear amber from a can. All around typical pale lager, super sweetly malted. Not that great.

From bottle to glass. Pours clear golden-yellow with bubbly white head. Mostly seems like corn and grain, with a dry finish.

Bottle from an Asian shop. I'm guessing this is the one I have, because it's the only Asahi Super Dry listing made in Italy with 5.2%. Clear pale gold with a short lived head. Almost no detectable smell, or I got Covid since the last beer half an hour ago. The flavor is really, really watery. It has a hint of grainy malt in the retronasal and enough bitterness to activate at least one taste bud. It's not offensive but perhaps one of the most boring pale lagers I've had. Drink when you want to chug a bottle of something cold, alcoholic, and fizzy without getting full - or have a vodka & seltzer.

Well it certainly looks the part, impressively clear and deep straw coloured, with a small bubbly/frothy white head, but virtually no aroma, maybe a hint of hay going on. Thin and fizzy, very slightly malty and very slightly bitter, very refreshing and not unenjoyable but it aint pulling up any trees for me.
