Dark brown and clear with fluffy head. Aroma is slightly metallic. Very malty overall. Good but a little more body and sweetness would be welcome.

Bottle, Frankfurt Airport. Fairly rich malty aroma. Has a nice ple malt taste, though with a somewhat harsh alcohol bitterness in the finish. A little bit coarse as a result. Decent bock but not great.

Certainly the best dunkler bock I’ve had in frankfurt airport, and maybe the best beer. Caramelized malt and some light roast. Pours dark amber with good head and lacing. Light sweet finish with some mash malt. Hint of copper. Goes down well with this free smoked salmon at the caviar bar in terminal b. Only the best my friends.

Bottle from trade with McTapps, many thanks Sabine. Dark chestnut brown color with thick off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, light roasty, chocolate. Taste, sweet caramel malt, honey, notes of red fruits, toffee, nuts. Alcohol is dangerously hidden. Good example of style.

Bottom-fermented Bockbier which can easily be classified as a dunkler Doppelbock, seen its 7.2% ABV. Eisbocks are a rarity in Germany nowadays (and in general) so this ’snow Bock’ will have to do for now as an easy alternative. Thin, pale beige head breaking open after a short while, colour a dark coppery bronze, clear with almost no fizz. Somewhat strange, sweetish and lightly sourish aroma of caramel, molasses, sour yoghurt, hazelnuts, raw red cabbage, hints of ’bread pudding’, candied figs, brown sugar, autumn leaves, and - this is where it takes a turn for the worse - a lot of iron, a hint of the odour described as ’band aid’, damp cloth, dish water, wet cardboard and a faint sulphuric hint of melting plastic. Rounded, soft onset of candi syrup sweetishness and caramelly malt sweetness, some grainy sourishness as in a bland pale lager, a bit metallic, medium carbo, smooth but rather thin body in relation to the ABV, a slightly more nutty maltiness in the middle, hint of earthy, leafy hops trying not to interfere with the maltiness, as is custom in this style, so the finish mainly consists of caramelly maltiness. Though in all quite okay for a Bock, the aroma did put me off a bit and I therefore had a hard time working my way through the 50 cl bottle. There are lots of better German Bocks out there.
