On tap at the brewery pours out dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is nice rich roast malts and some ash. Taste is more of the nice rich roast malts and some ash.

12 oz. can from Spec's, New Braunfels, TX. Pours a clear deep mahogany color with a large beige head and great retention. Very good lacing. Dark malt and faint chocolate aroma. The flavor is all dark roasted malt with a hint of coffee in the finish. Low carbonation and low bitterness. Super smooth and clean. Really good.

Pours dark brown with a beige head that soon fades to wispy lacing. Hints of dank torf, caramel and chocolate in an aroma that altogether was rather on the weak side. In fairness, the slightly too cold serving temperature may have dulled the olfactory delights.Taste is characterized by roasted notes, light caramel and chocolate, and the flat, bitter notes from the pils malt, but yet still not a lot of depth. Body stays rather light with moderate carbonation. Not bad, but it feels literally like a mix of two brews.

12 oz. can. Pours a dark cola brown with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt with a bit of smokiness. Taste is roasted malt, nuts, a touch of smoke, hints of chocolate, and coffee. Has a pleasant lingering finish of mildly bitter roasted malt. Medium-bodied but on the lighter side of the spectrum. Nice one.

Nice deep cola coloured body with a brown glow, hints of auburn and violet and a thick, rich, five centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of milk, nuts, earth, copper, roasted malt and a hint of light coffee. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour with a lot of earth, some smooth chocolate and coffee flavours and the hints of pecans and walnuts throughout. Aftertaste is well-balanced and showing some good malt notes coupled with a pleasant caramel and toffee sweetness. Overall,a good schwartz with a big nutty and caramel flavour and a subdued yet strong sweet finish that couples well with the rich malts. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whip-In in Austin, Texas on 05-May-2014 for US$2,69 sampled at home in Washington on 06-November-2014.

On tap at Westside Althouse. Dark clear brown with red highlights and a tight frothy beige head that leaves tight lace. Nose is bread, roasted nuts, light chocolate and some lighter vanilla and caramel. Taste starts Lightly sweet with a moderate bitterness following creating a dry crisp finish. Medium light crisp body with light carbonation. Nice

Pours dark brown, looks nearly black without direct light but it’s quite brown when lit. The head is medium-sized and tan in color. Good retention. Lots of bubbles sticking around, coating the top of the beer. Cleanly malty aroma. Nutty with caramel depth. Very light coffee roast. It’s a nice, round malt sweetness. Taste is mild and nutty, again. There’s some malt sweetness. Caramel in the finish. Solid grain flavors. Mouthfeel is pretty normal. Relatively light, medium carbonation. Good beer.

Lightly hazy dark red - brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Palate is slightly soft. Very mellow dark malts, quite creamy. Mild and pleasant touch of roast. Whisper of ester in the finish. All right.
