This spiced amber ale is our celebration of the arrival of Autumn. Brewed with cinnamon, all-spice and nutmeg (a riff on Grandma Davies’ pumpkin pie recipe), and additions of Caramel and Crystal malt for balanced flavor, drinkability and a brilliant orange-amber color, despite the absence of pumpkin in the recipe. A refreshingly spicy, season brew.

bottle - Pours slightly hazy orange and smells of pumpkin pie spices, which of course is the point. The flavor is fairly sweet with nutmeg and cinnamon noticeable but not overly strong. Light to medium bodied. Average or a little better overall.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, fall 2014 bottling. Pours lightly hazy bright orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with god balance and solid complexity of dark/bready malt and spice notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light earthy spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and solid complexity of dark/bready malt and spice flavors; with a good malt/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid spiced ale. Good balance and solid complexity of dark/bready malt and spice flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A bit one dimensional, but nicely enjoyable otherwise.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a golden clear brown and left a small white head. Though the body was extremely clear, there was no carbonation was seen rising.
The smell had nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice up front and dominating every aspect of the aromas.
The taste was pretty much the same. Some pumpkin came out in the taste as it warmed up.
On the palate, it sat at about a light and felt great on my tongue. This is an extremely drinkable beer.
Overall ok, I know its not a true \"pumpkin ale,\" but I can see certain seasonal aspects how some would think this is since the pumpkin only came out once the beer warmed.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Central Market, 11/10/13

Aroma: The aroma is vegetal and spice, mild pumpkin, and cinnamon
Appearance: It pours a dark orange color, some beige head, and mid-plus lacework
Flavor: The taste is much the same, a little too much vegetal, not enough pumpkin spice
Palate: The body is medium, it has a decent mouthfeel, average carbonation, and a tingly finish
Overall Impression: I wanted this one to be better, but the vegetal flavor overrides the pumpkin spice and makes it a less than stellar example of the style for me.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Wauwatosa, WI, enjoyed on a Sunday late in the Bears season while watching a game. Appearance is a cloudy dark gold with a small but frothy white head that rims around the glass. Aroma is pretty sweet with a sweet pumpkin/clove/cinnamon profile. Taste is also very sweet with a pumpkin pie like flavor, but to me it tastes a bit artificial, not much malt unless in the back end. Not bad, just ok.
